Student answer (Band 7.0)

Nowadays, supermarts in many countries offer consumers a wide variety of food products imported from different parts of the world. I believe this is a positive development because it gives people greater choice and access to diverse foods, while also providing an economic benefits to food-producing countries and business.

One major advantage of having internationally produced food available in supermarkets is that consumers have uncountable options. People can purchase products that may not be available in their own countries and experience different cuisines without traveling abroad. Moreover, access to wider variety of choices can allow individuals to maintain carried diets and enjoy items according to their preferences. For example, a person living in Pakistan can easily purchase Italian pasta, Japnese sauces and tropical fruits from other countries, giving them the opportunity to explore a range of cuissine.

Another important benefit is that international food trade can create economic opportunities to producers and enterprenuers. Farmers and food manufacturesrs can sell their products to overseas markets, which can increase their income and create employments in food production, packaging and transpotation. In addition, supermarkets benefit from attracting customers by offering wide variety of products, while consumers can enjoy seasonal foods throughout the year. For instance, farmer in countries with favorable climates can export fruits and vegetables to regions where these products cannot grow easily, allowing both consumers and producers to benefit from international trade.

In conclusion, I believe that the avalibity of food from around the world is positive approach. It gives consumers greater choices and allow them to experience different foods, while global trade creates economic advantages to farmers and enterprises. Therefore, the advantages of globally avaliable foods outweigh its potential disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The response addresses all parts of the task effectively, maintaining a clear position throughout that the availability of global food is a positive development. Ideas are well-extended and supported with relevant examples, such as a person living in Pakistan purchasing Italian pasta and Japanese sauces. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise in places, and some supporting points are developed more fully than others, preventing the response from reaching the highest tier. For instance, the economic benefits mentioned in the second body paragraph remain somewhat broad and general. Overall, the main position is strongly sustained and fully satisfies the requirements for a well-rounded and detailed discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5

There is a clear logical organisation and progression throughout the essay. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, starting from the introduction of the issue and the author's stance, moving through two well-defined body paragraphs focusing on consumer choice and economic benefits, and concluding with a concise summary. Cohesive devices are used reasonably flexibly, such as 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'For instance', guiding the reader smoothly from one idea to the next. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately. Minor flaws in referencing or a slight mechanical feel to some transitional phrases prevent the essay from achieving top-tier status, but the overall structure remains coherent and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'internationally produced', 'cuissine', and 'enterprenuers'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that reflect a Band 6 level, including 'supermarts', 'uncountable options' instead of countless options, 'carried diets' instead of varied diets, 'cuissine' (misspelled), 'manufacturesrs', and 'avalibity'. Despite these slips, the vocabulary remains sufficient to communicate the main ideas clearly, and the spelling errors do not seriously impede overall understanding. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate greater precision in word choice and eliminate basic spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over various structures such as relative clauses and conditional-like expressions. There are some grammar and punctuation errors, including missing articles and pluralisation issues like 'providing an economic benefits', 'access to wider variety', 'create economic opportunities to producers', and 'a farmer in countries'. Preposition usage also occasionally slips, such as 'opportunities to producers' instead of for producers. Nevertheless, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the arguments without difficulty. To reach the next level, the writer should aim for a higher proportion of error-free complex sentences and finer control over articles and prepositions.
