Student answer (Band 5.5)
In some countries, customers can go to a supermarket and buy food made from all over the world. I solemnly think that this is a positive development. This essay will cover both positive and negative development of this and it will illustrate why I think that it is a positive development.
There are so many food which can not be grown in some countries. Importing food from other countries allow us to buy necessary foods. For example, this include avocadoes. Avocado can not be grown in Bangladesh because the weather is not suitable. As avocadoes are healthy and nutritious for us, the government exports this from other countries. Also, other packaged food and fishes that are not available in our country, we can get it easily in the supermarket anytime. Therefore, exporting foods to other countries help to rise our economy. Such as, gross domestic product (GDP) increases. If someone visited another country, they tasted food there and they are craving for it now, they can just go to their nearest supermarket and buy it. Foods become easily accesible to us.
However, there are some negative development as well. Sometimes, to export food to other countries local people do not get enough food in their own country. For instance, recently, Bangladesh exported tons of onions to India, for that particular reason the price in home country increased dramatically. Also, the cost of importing is quite expensive. Local sellers may suffer because consumers prefer foreign product. Many consumers believe that if the product is imported, it is better than our local product. This hampers local businesses. Other than that, foreign foods that are imported, they are sold to us with a high price. Most of the people can not afford to buy. This affects our economy.
In conclusion, despite it's limitations, I believe that the advantages of exporting food outweigh the disadvantages from all over the world.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task partially, expressing a clear position that the development is positive. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the writer mentions that importing food helps to raise the economy and increases GDP, but this point lacks sufficient extension or specific explanation. Additionally, the essay contains a contradiction in the introduction, where the writer states that the essay will cover both positive and negative developments, yet simultaneously asserts that it is entirely a positive development. Furthermore, some confusion arises regarding import and export terminology, such as stating that governments 'export this from other countries' when referring to bringing goods into the country, which impacts how fully the task is addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some overall organization with clear paragraph breaks separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, the progression of ideas lacks complete clarity at times. Cohesive devices are used, but they are occasionally mechanical, repetitive, or inaccurate, such as starting multiple sentences with 'Also' or 'For example'. Referencing can also be unclear, as seen in the transitional flow between sentences in the second body paragraph where ideas about fish, packaged food, and GDP are grouped together abruptly. To improve towards a higher band, the writer needs to ensure a smoother, more logical flow of ideas and a more natural, varied use of cohesive devices throughout the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The lexical resource is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'nutritious', 'dramatically', and 'accessible', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice and collocation. For example, using 'exports this from other countries' instead of 'imports', and writing 'food made from all over the world' instead of 'produced'. There are also minor spelling and word form errors, such as 'avocadoes' (variant spelling, though acceptable) and 'accesible'. These vocabulary limitations and inaccuracies occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher level of lexical precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause difficulty for the reader. Examples of grammatical inaccuracies include pluralisation and agreement issues such as 'There are so many food which can not be grown', pronoun referencing errors like 'this include avocadoes', and faulty article usage in phrases like 'with a high price' and 'in home country'. Additionally, prepositional patterns are occasionally mishandled. To reach a higher band, the writer must produce a greater variety of error-free complex sentences and improve overall control over basic grammatical rules and punctuation.
