Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, supermarkets have increased the accessibility of a variety of food to almost everybody. Food products that are produced globally can be obtained easily from shops in various countries, which is a very positive development in my perspective. In this essay, I will give reasons and relevant examples in favor of my argument.
To commence with, a major benefit is the convenience for the consumers. This means that people can easily buy fruits, vegetables and meat from the same market rather than visiting different shops to do grocery. This, as a result, saves time and reduces the hustle in finding particular items. Provided that, if a person needs to purchase groceries for the whole week, he can get a variety of food products from the superstore without wasting time in visiting different shops.
Another factor is improved health associated with increased access to food from all over the world. It is attributed to the fact that many exotic fruits and vegetables, which are cultivated only in specific parts of the world, are also become available in big shops of other countries as well. One example is that avocado which is not commonly produced in Pakistan, but it can be found in various superstores. Hence, numerous important sources of vitamins, proteins can improve the overall health of individuals.
On the other hand, some people consider it as a negative advancement as the eatables found in markets are often preserved by various preservatives that can be harmful for the consumers. Conversely, the food that is resourced from farms, gardens or small shops is often fresh, so it is more nutritious. For Instance, milk which is received from the farms are free from preservatives, and healthier as compared to the packaged milk found in stores. However, such food items have shorter life span.
To conclude, from my perspective, having supermarkets is a positive development in terms of convenience and possibility of improved health linked with kit.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the positive and negative aspects of having globally produced food in supermarkets, establishing a clear position that it is an overall positive development. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. While the advantages of convenience and health benefits are presented with some supporting detail, the counter-argument regarding preservatives is somewhat brief and less thoroughly explored. For instance, the discussion on supermarkets offering a one-stop shop covers the convenience aspect well, but to reach a higher level, all main ideas would need equal extension and deeper insight into the broader economic or environmental implications of global food supply chains.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Each paragraph has a clear central topic, such as convenience in the second paragraph and health benefits in the third. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. Transitional phrases like 'To commence with,' and 'Another factor is' are used reliably, but referencing and linking across sentences can occasionally feel repetitive or clunky, such as 'Provided that, if a person needs...' and 'Hence, numerous important sources of vitamins, proteins can improve...' Managing cohesive devices with more subtlety and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would elevate the organizational control of the writing.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items with varying degrees of success. Words and phrases like 'accessibility,' 'exotic fruits,' and 'preservatives' show a suitable attempt to engage with the topic precisely. Nevertheless, there are some word-choice and collocation inaccuracies that prevent a higher score, such as 'reduces the hustle' (instead of hassle), 'food that is resourced from farms' (instead of sourced), and milk which is 'received from the farms' (instead of obtained or sourced from). Spelling is generally acceptable, and communication is never impeded, but precision in collocation and a wider, more flexible lexical range are needed for higher tiers.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an ability to construct subordinate clauses, such as 'Food products that are produced globally can be obtained easily...' However, there are some errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text. Instances include article and agreement issues, such as 'avocado which is not commonly produced in Pakistan, but it can be found' (missing an article before avocado, and a redundant pronoun), and 'milk which is received from the farms are free' (subject-verb agreement error with 'milk... are'). Punctuation is generally functional, but these persistent minor errors in grammar patterns prevent the sentences from achieving the frequent error-free consistency required at higher levels.
