Student answer (Band 5.5)

Food is the important need of individuals for surviving. It is believed by a few countries that consumers buy all over the world food in the supermarkets. This development have both positive and negative points for which vindication would be elaborated in the upcoming paragraphs.

To commence with, there are several merits of association with it. The first and formost is, variety of food. To explain it, humans buy many kinds of food in the supermarket and they taste new foods. Furthermore, citizens buy all seasonal foods in the big supermarkets. And food is cheaper in the supermarket because there are many competition between owners of the the supermarkets. For example, india import some types of foods and speices from the other countries. And india is also export some types of crops to other nations. Therefore, supermarket provides many items to individuals.

Nevertheless, there are numerous demerits of supermarket foods. One of the prominent is, stale food. To elaborate it, the supermarkets stored a lot of food for long time then markets provide stale food to consumers rather than fresh food and the stale food harmful for human health. Moreover, supermarkets effect on the environment because it use a lot of plastic for the packaging of food products. And the supermarkets effect on the small shops and farmers because the owners of the big markets buy food on the small price from the farmers then they sell food on high price in the big markets. Hence, the supermarket effect on environment and small farmers.

In the conclusion, after taking all aspects into my consideration. I would like to emphasize that supermarkets are useful for the consumers such as variety of foods and provide all seasonal food to customers. But do not forget the disadvantages of supermarkets food.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the positive and negative aspects of buying global food in supermarkets, satisfying the requirement to present a view. However, the position is somewhat basic and the ideas presented are limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on economic competition mentions that 'food is cheaper in the supermarket because there are many competition between owners of the the supermarkets', but this point is not fully extended with strong explanations or specific real-world consequences. Similarly, the negative points regarding environmental impact and local farmers are introduced with simple supporting sentences rather than thorough elaboration. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to present fully extended ideas with deeper supporting arguments and maintain a clearer, more nuanced position throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs addressing merits and demerits, and a concluding paragraph. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct themes. However, cohesion relies on repetitive and mechanical devices, such as 'To commence with', 'The first and formost is', and 'To elaborate it', which makes the flow feel somewhat formulaic. Furthermore, referencing is not always clear, as seen in sentences where pronouns and transitional phrases do not connect smoothly to the preceding clauses. To improve further, the writer should employ a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure clearer progression of ideas between sentences and paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common expressions, such as 'vindication', 'prominent', and 'debased', but these attempts are often accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, form, and collocation, such as 'all over the world food' instead of 'food from all over the world' and 'on the small price' instead of 'at a low price'. There are also several spelling and word-form errors, including 'formost', 'speices', and 'effect' used as a verb instead of 'affect'. These errors can occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire and use words accurately with greater precision and correct word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic coordinating clauses. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, these are frequently faulty, such as 'The supermarkets stored a lot of food for long time then markets provide stale food to consumers'. There are frequent errors in articles ('the supermarkets', 'the other countries'), pluralisation, subject-verb agreement ('This development have'), and prepositions. These errors persist throughout the text and can cause difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures while significantly improving basic accuracy and control over punctuation and verb forms.
