Student answer (Band 6.0)
Cusotmers from many countries can go to a supermarket and purchase food that are produced across the world. I think this is a positive development as this will solve food shortages and consumers can enjoy wide range of food products.
One major reason this is a positive development because many countries can not sufficient enough of food that its citizens need. This can be caused by weather, quality of soil, shortages of manpower in agriculture sectors. As a result, they have to import food from other countries to meet the demand of its public and eliminate the shortages of food. If citizens of a country able to buy their necessary food items that were imported from nearby supermarkets, it will resolve food shortage issue. For example, some countries from middle east struggle to produce vegetable because of weather issue, so they import food from other countries and meet the need of their citizens and public can buy easily from the market.
Another reason is that if some countries import and export food from amongst themselves, this would bring lots of varities of food products to their respective countries. Consumers can buy different kind of food that they like from nearby supermarket easily and might enjoy better quality of food. For instance, some european countries import different types of rice and fish from indian subcontinent countries and those people from europe can enjoy those wide range of products by purchasing them from supermarket easily.
In conclusion, it is a very common trend nowadays, consumers from many countries visit a supermarket and buy food that are manufactured from all over the world. I think it is a positive development due to convenience of enjoying varities of food and this could also solve food crisis of some countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by clearly stating a position that the global food trade is a positive development. Relevant ideas are presented, such as solving food shortages due to adverse weather or soil conditions and providing a wider variety of food products to consumers. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the example regarding Middle Eastern countries importing vegetables is well-explained, while the explanation of European countries importing rice and fish remains somewhat general and lacks deeper extension. Despite this uneven development, the main position is clear throughout the response, satisfying the core requirements of this level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs focusing on distinct reasons, and a logical conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate each main idea. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. For example, transitional phrases and referencing are occasionally repetitive or oversimplified, as seen in the frequent reliance on 'This' to start sentences or clauses without always maintaining smooth progression. Furthermore, some sentences lack seamless connection, which prevents the essay from achieving a higher level of fluid progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'agricultural sectors,' 'food crisis,' and 'import and export.' However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word forms throughout the text. Examples include the spelling error in 'Cusotmers,' awkward phrasing like 'food that are produced' and 'weather issue' instead of 'weather conditions,' and imprecise choices such as 'varities' and 'indian subcontinent countries.' These lexical errors and awkward collocations occasionally recur, though they do not seriously impede overall communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures, such as 'If citizens of a country able to buy their necessary food items...' However, there are notable grammatical errors and missing elements, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement and articles, such as 'food that are produced,' 'can not sufficient enough of food,' and omitting necessary plural markers or articles before nouns like 'middle east' and 'market.' While these errors in grammar are noticeable, they rarely impede communication and the basic meaning remains clear.
