Student answer (Band 5.5)

In many Nations recently, consumers can go to a supermarket and purchase food produced all over the globe. I strongly think that this is a positive development as this will help most people that are travel lovers and are allergic to certain foods and are selective about what they eat to be able to go to anywhere they want to go in the world.

Firstly,Majority of people are allergic over certain kind of food and are so selective that they cannot consume food from other Nations besides the one that they are already accustomed to. I believe that a consumer being able to buy food produced all the over the world in a supermarket is a great opportunity to this set of individuals, eapecially if they love to travel. This will boost their courage to travel to any part of the globe knowning that what they will eat can be purchased at ease.

Secondly, this will also provide the opportunity for people to settle in any part of the world. when there is an easy access to what to eat and keep fit, people tend to move and settle anywhere they wish. This I believe will bring about developement because skilled individuals can migrate with ease to any part of the globe they are invited to deliver their skills.

In conclusion, I believe that consumers being able to purchase food produced all over the globe will be a positive developement.

Overall5.5

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially and falls slightly short of the minimum length requirement of 250 words, totaling 240 words. The writer takes a clear position that global food availability in supermarkets is a positive development, but the supporting ideas are somewhat limited and repetitive. Both body paragraphs focus heavily on travel and dietary restrictions, which under-develops the broader socio-economic and cultural implications of global food supply chains. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to fully extend ideas with broader examples and meet the word count requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, fulfilling the basic requirements of paragraphing. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, such as the repetitive use of transition markers like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'this set of individuals' referring back to a lengthy description of travellers with allergies. Progression is present, but overall logical flow would be improved through more varied and subtle cohesive devices and clearer pronoun referencing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'accustomed', 'migrated', and 'developement', but there are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form. For example, 'developement' is misspelled, and phrases like 'allergic over certain kind of food' demonstrate awkward preposition use and collocation. These lexical inaccuracies and limited range mean the vocabulary is functional rather than precise, though communication is generally maintained.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on long, convoluted sentences that lead to grammatical errors. There are frequent errors in article usage, capitalization, and punctuation, such as missing capital letters after periods ('when there is an easy access') and incorrect comma placement. Attempts at complex sentences often result in structural strain, for instance in the opening sentence: 'I strongly think that this is a positive development as this will help most people that are travel lovers and are allergic...'. Improving sentence variety and mastering basic grammatical boundaries will significantly enhance accuracy.
