Student answer (Band 6.5)
In modern era, the globalization has transformed the way people purchase and consumes food. Consumers can now find products from different countries in their local supermarkets, which was difficult in the past. However, i believe this largely positive development, although it can create some disadvantages for local farmers and the environment.
One of the main advantage of international food availability is that it gives greater choice and convenience. People can enjoy food from different cultures without travelling abroad, which can also increase their understanding of other traditions. For example, Indian supermarkets increasingly sell Italian pasta, Japanese sauces and Maxican ingreadiants, allowing people to experiments with international cuisines at home. Furthermore, imported food can provide access to products that cannot be produced locally because of climate and geographycal limitations. For instance, tropical fruits such as avacados and certains berries can be available in countries where the local climate is unsuitable for growingthem.
However, this trend can have some negative consequences for local farmers and the environment. Imported products may be cheaper because they are produced on a large scale, making it difficult for small local farmers to compete. In addition, transporting food over long distance requires considerable amount of fuel and can increase carbon emissions. For example, if fruits are transported over thousands of kilometres by air or in refrigerated trucks , their overall impacts on environment may be considerably higher than that of locally grown alternatives.
In conclusion, i consider the global availablity of food to be a positive development because it provides greater choices, convenience and cultural exposure. Although it put some pressure on local farmers and the environment, these disadvantages can be addressed through resposible comsumption and appropriate government policies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position throughout that the global availability of food is largely positive, while acknowledging potential downsides. The main ideas are generally well extended and supported with relevant examples, such as Indian supermarkets selling Italian pasta and Japanese sauces. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise in parts, and some arguments could be pushed further to achieve full development, such as the specific economic impact on small farmers. Overall, the response maintains a clear focus on the prompt and successfully presents a balanced view.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are coherently linked, with a distinct and appropriate overall arrangement into paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well to guide the reader, employing transition markers such as 'Furthermore', 'For instance', and 'However'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the introduction, body paragraphs focusing on advantages and disadvantages, and the conclusion. While referencing is generally clear, occasional mechanical transitions prevent the cohesion from being entirely seamless.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'globalization', 'geographical limitations', and 'carbon emissions'. However, there are some noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, spelling, and word forms. For instance, 'consumes' is used instead of 'consumption', 'Maxican ingreadiants' contains spelling and word form errors, and 'availablity' is misspelled. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they reflect a limited precision that keeps the lexical score constrained.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The text contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an ability to construct compound and complex clauses like 'Consumers can now find products from different countries in their local supermarkets, which was difficult in the past.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('In modern era', 'considerable amount'), subject-verb agreement issues ('One of the main advantage'), and minor capitalization lapses ('i believe'). However, these errors rarely impede communication and the punctuation is generally manageable for the reader.
