Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the positive and negative developments of consuming global food in supermarkets, establishing a clear position. However, some ideas are limited and under-developed, placing the response in the mid-range. For instance, the positive points regarding variety and seasonal availability are mentioned rather than fully extended with robust reasoning or concrete personal examples. Similarly, the negative impacts such as pollution and plastic waste are introduced briefly with repetitive phrasing like 'To elaborate it' and 'To elaborate, many different types of foods are available'. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to expand further on each main idea with well-supported arguments and fully articulated examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions, such as 'To begin with', 'Nevertheless', and 'In conclusion'. However, the cohesion can feel somewhat mechanical and repetitive, and referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'the another demerit is increase air pollution' and 'because this food store for a long period'. While progression is discernible between the merits and demerits, the sentences within paragraphs sometimes lack smooth linking. To improve, the writer should employ a wider and more natural variety of cohesive devices and ensure that referencing pronouns connect seamlessly to preceding clauses.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic points about global food supply chains and supermarkets. Examples include 'for buy all world around food', 'brandard food', and 'pollutant the environment', which stem from issues with word form, collocation, and spelling. These errors occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire and apply greater precision in word choice and collocations, avoiding literal translations and ensuring accurate word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on a limited range of sentence structures, featuring frequent simple sentences and attempts at complex structures that are often faulty. There are recurrent grammatical errors in verb forms, tenses, prepositions, and articles, such as 'It is belived', 'consumers can go to supermarkets for buy', 'this vehicle produced a pollution', and 'supermarkets effect on the nature'. Punctuation and agreement issues also persist, exemplified by sentence fragments like 'In conclusion, after taking all aspects into consideration.' These frequent errors require the reader to occasionally interpret the intended meaning. To progress, the writer should focus on mastering basic grammatical structures, reducing errors in verb agreement, and integrating complex sentence forms with greater accuracy.
