Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that globalized food supply is a positive development and supporting it with both benefits and drawbacks. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. While the advantages are outlined reasonably well, the points regarding drawbacks—such as local businesses being affected negatively in terms of financial loss—tend to be repetitive and lack deeper elaboration or specific real-world examples beyond generalities. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to extend and support all arguments more thoroughly with fully realized examples rather than drifting into generalization.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the writing is divided into logical paragraphs. However, cohesion is at times faulty and mechanical. The writer relies heavily on basic transitional markers like 'Firstly', 'In addition', and 'On the other hand', and some referencing is imprecise. Furthermore, the final sentence of the introduction cuts off mid-thought, disrupting the smooth flow of the text. To improve, the writer should employ a wider range of cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure that paragraphs transition seamlessly without abrupt structural breaks.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to discuss economic and agricultural concepts with words like 'consumption', 'international markets', and 'transportation cost'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'produced' instead of 'produce', 'similiar', 'internatioal', 'controle', 'exporting' used in place of 'exports', 'sometime', 'drwabacks', and 'form'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they reflect limitations in lexical precision and accuracy. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to expand their range of less-common vocabulary and eliminate frequent spelling and word-formation mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional and concessive clauses in sentences like 'When different countries produced similiar types of food then supply of food greater than its consumption.' However, there are frequent errors in verb forms, tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, articles, and missing prepositions, such as 'food that produced', 'supply of food greater than', 'this development affect negatively', and 'consumers preference'. These errors require some effort to decode, though they rarely obscure the overall meaning completely. To progress, the writer must exercise better control over grammatical patterns and ensure greater accuracy across both simple and complex sentences.
