Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some experts say that, in order to assess the developement of any country, you must assess their transportation infrastructure. You see many developed countries around the world investing in the transportation sector. This is because transportation plays a very crucial role in a countries development.
I think the most amazing result of this transport revolution is the ease of access of different kinds of food. Nowadays consumers can go in any supermarket in the world and buy any food item they desire. I think it is a positive developement. As it not only benefits the consumer, but it also immensely helps out the producers of food, as due to this they get a huge audience of costumers.
In old times, the transportation infrastructure was not fully developed. The food that the producers made had to be sold quickly, as food items such as fruits and vegetable have a very short shelf life. Their costumer base was only limited to their own hometown and the surrounding villages. If some merchendise went unsold for a long time, the producer had to suffer huge losses, which could also impact his future harvests. But advanced transportation infrastructure solved this problem. Now a poor farmer in india can sell his crops to a guy living in america.
This availability not only changed the lives of individuals, but it also impacted the economy of whole countries. A recent example is China, which was a poor country. But after developing good transportion facilities it chnaged its destiny by exporting many different food items to several other countries.
The consumers also benefit a lot. They can just go the supermarket and buy whatever food item they want wheather they are food items needed for dieting or completing their protien intake.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that the global availability of food is a positive development. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as the benefits to producers and consumers alongside broader economic impacts, like the example of China. However, some ideas remain under-developed or briefly stated. For instance, the discussion regarding consumer benefits at the end introduces interesting points about dieting and protein intake, but these are left superficial rather than fully extended and supported with deeper explanation. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to explore these supporting points with greater depth and clearer elaboration throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a discernible progression of ideas, moving from an introduction of transport and food availability to producer benefits, national economic impact, and finally consumer benefits. Paragraphing is utilized to separate these main themes. However, cohesion at times feels mechanical or faulty, and referencing is not always completely clear. For example, transition phrases between paragraphs and sentences are quite basic, and referencing words like 'due to this' or 'this availability' are repetitive rather than skillfully varied. Moving to the next band would require a more sophisticated and flexible use of cohesive devices, alongside smoother transitions that make the underlying logical relationship between paragraphs feel entirely natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their ideas about food distribution and transport. There are attempts to use less common items and specific terminology, such as 'infrastructure', 'shelf life', and 'merchandise'. However, noticeable spelling errors ('developement', 'costumers', 'merchendise', 'protien', 'wheather') and occasional awkward word choices occur throughout the text. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they highlight a lack of precision. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical range with greater control over spelling, collocation, and style, avoiding repetitive phrasing like 'food item' and ensuring word forms are consistently accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, successfully employing subordinate clauses and varied structures to convey ideas. There are some grammatical errors and punctuation lapses, such as missing capitalization ('india', 'america'), minor preposition issues, and run-on structures or missing spaces after terminal punctuation. Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. To progress further, the writer needs to increase the proportion of error-free complex sentences and demonstrate tighter control over articles, capitalization, and punctuation rules, ensuring that complex grammatical patterns are executed with greater consistency and precision.
