Student answer (Band 5.5)

The global sourcing of supermarket has become increasingly common, allowing consumers to consume foods of different nations from anywhere in the world. While this development is praised by some individuals and disgraced by some. I firmly believe that this development effort positive effects really overshadows its negative outcomes.

One of the main advantages of this trend is that people who are enthusiast of learning about the other countries culture and their background and are always in sake of eating foods of different countries can enjoy their food without flying to those countries. For instance, people who craved about the Chinese food that they see on the tv and films and are curious about their ingredients they can buy all those ingredients from any supermarket nowadays.

In addition, this global trend has a crucial impact on our environment it helps us to observe what characteristics their foods have that benefits them. For instance, Japanese foods have very minor spices and still feels amazingly tasty and also good for health this way we can improve our daily diet routine. On top of that, we can cook a mix our local food and other countries foods.

Some individuals argue that, this global trend has ruined their local culture, people are more inclined towards other countries foods over their traditional foods. This argument does have a merit However; it is a matter of choice and personal opinions.

In conclusion, I'm a proponent of that we should accept this global trend with time. I have a firm conviction that positive impacts overshadow the negative impacts of this development

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that globalised supermarket food is a positive development. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the first body paragraph attempts to explain why consumers enjoy exploring different culinary cultures, the second paragraph mixes environmental health observations with dietary variety rather than thoroughly developing a single coherent argument. Some ideas, such as how Japanese foods help improve daily routines, remain under-developed and lack clear logical extension. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to fully develop all main points with extended explanations and more robust supporting examples rather than shifting abruptly between concepts.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the response is divided into logical paragraphs. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition 'In addition, this global trend has a crucial impact on our environment' is followed by points about food characteristics and diet rather than environmental concerns, leading to a weak link between sentences. Furthermore, referencing is not always clear, and punctuation errors around conjunctions, such as 'However; it is a matter of choice', disrupt the flow. To improve, the writer should ensure that cohesive devices are used more accurately and that each paragraph maintains a clear, unified progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task and attempts less common items, such as 'global sourcing', 'proponent', and 'conviction'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'disgraced by some' instead of 'disapproved of', 'in sake of' instead of 'for the sake of', and 'craved about' instead of 'craved'. Additionally, there are minor awkward phrasings like 'effort positive effects really overshadows'. These lexical errors and awkward collocations place the writing firmly at this level because they occasionally impede precision, although communication is not severely blocked. Expanding lexical control and ensuring accurate collocations would elevate the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at relative clauses and conditional-style reasoning. However, there are frequent errors in sentence structure and punctuation that reveal a lack of firm control. Notable issues include run-on sentences and comma splices, such as 'While this development is praised by some individuals and disgraced by some. I firmly believe...' and 'This argument does have a merit However; it is a matter of choice'. There are also minor structural awkwardness issues, such as 'we can cook a mix our local food and other countries foods'. To move up, the student needs to reduce punctuation errors, avoid sentence fragments, and demonstrate more reliable control over complex grammatical structures.
