Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear and direct stance that the availability of global food in supermarkets is a positive development. Relevant ideas are presented, such as the benefits of healthy competition, cultural diversity, and support for tourism and employment. However, some of these ideas remain under-developed and are asserted rather than fully extended with deep reasoning or robust examples. For instance, mentioning the UK as a developed country with Pakistani food and fast food touches upon a relevant point, but the explanation remains brief and general. To move to a higher level, the writer would need to fully develop all main points with deeper elaboration and more specific examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by mechanical and repetitive cohesive devices, such as the frequent repetition of the phrase 'produced by all over the world'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas lacks smooth transitions. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and logical links between sentences can feel abrupt. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices and ensure that each paragraph builds logically and seamlessly towards the overall argument without repetitive phrasing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used provides an adequate range for the task, allowing the writer to communicate basic ideas about global food and supermarket variety. Attempts are made to use less common items, such as 'contemporary era' and 'healthy competition', but these are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form, for example, writing 'custmomers' instead of customers, 'produdced' instead of produced, and 'greate' instead of great. Spelling and typographical errors occur across the text, such as 'develped', 'hygenic', and 'resident', though they generally do not completely impede communication. To reach a higher standard, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire with greater precision and eliminate basic spelling and word choice inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as the use of subordinate clauses with 'because' and 'which'. However, the range of structures is limited, and attempts at more complex sentences often contain grammar and punctuation errors. Frequent mistakes include article omissions and incorrect prepositions, such as 'food produced by all over the world' instead of 'from all over the world', and subject-verb agreement issues like 'migrants found it' or 'Governments facilitate there resident'. Punctuation is also problematic, notably with stray punctuation marks and run-on structures. To improve, the writer needs to demonstrate better control over complex sentence patterns and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical errors.
