Student answer (Band 5.0)
Nowadayes, development is taking place everywhere. consumers can go to a supermarket and buy food produced all over the world. people who can live in cities prefer to stay there, and as a result, people in villages are also living a lifestyle similar to that of people in cities.
In my opinion, this is a positive development beacause people in cities can easily get food from different parts of the world. it is convenient for them and gives them more choices. instead of travelling to villages to buy different types of food, they can simply purchase it from supermarkets in their cities. for this reason, people do not need to travel far to buy food because supermarkets are now available in almost every city, and they can find almost everything they need there.
From my own experience, when families move to cities for better opportunities, they need many things, such as food, vegetables, grains and other daily necessities. nowadayes, supermarkets are available in almost every city, so people can easily buy everything they need in one place. i think this is positive development beacause it make peoples lives more convenient. this development can also be seen in many countries abroad, where supermarkets india provide a wide range of products from different parts of the world.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
First, it must be noted that the response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, stopping at only 199 words, with 14 words copied directly from the prompt not counted. Regarding task fulfillment, the essay addresses the prompt minimally, stating a clear position that the development is positive, but the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the writer mentions that supermarkets give people more choices and save travel time, but these points are supported only by repetitive general statements rather than extended explanations or specific examples from their own experience. The mention of 'supermarkets india' appears abruptly and illustrates a lack of detailed development, keeping the response at a lower band level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The text displays some basic organization, separating the introduction, body, and conclusion into paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are inadequate or used in a mechanical and repetitive way, such as overusing phrases like 'this is positive development' and 'nowadayes'. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between sentences lacks a smooth logical flow. For example, the opening paragraph abruptly shifts from global food distribution to city and village lifestyles without establishing a clear connection. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical links between sentences need significant strengthening to achieve better progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for discussing the topic, featuring basic and repetitive terms like 'food', 'cities', 'supermarkets', and 'positive development'. There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'Nowadayes', 'beacause', and lowercase letters at the beginning of sentences ('consumers', 'people', 'instead', 'for', 'nowadayes', 'i'), which reflect a basic control of word form and orthography. While the writer attempts some common vocabulary related to daily necessities and shopping, the frequent errors and lack of sophisticated lexical items mean that the range remains restricted and occasionally causes difficulty for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer uses a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and basic compound forms joined by conjunctions like 'and' or 'so'. Attempts at more complex structures are largely absent or overly simplistic. There are frequent errors in punctuation and capitalization, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters ('it is convenient', 'instead of travelling', 'for this reason', 'nowadayes supermarkets', 'i think'), alongside punctuation omissions at sentence boundaries. While simple clauses are generally understandable, the lack of a varied grammatical repertoire and persistent mechanical errors place this performance firmly within the lower-middle band.
