Student answer (Band 6.0)

Globalization of market has increased convenience and access of wide variety of goods and services. In recent days , consumers can purchase wide range of foodstuffs produced globally from market stores. While this trend offers some downsides such as stiff competion to locally manufactured goods, I believe it is a positive development as it has lead to production of quality products in the market.

One of the significant gains of supermarkets selling products from all over the world, is that consumers are abled to access superior products. It is argued that global market is standardized, this means that goods produced meet the expected qualities in order to satisfy worlwide customers. For instance, processed food are ensured they attained the bereau standards before they reach a supermarket counters. This has promoted consumption of less calories, thus eradicating dietary diseases.

However, consumption of food produced from all parts of the globe pose some challenges to consumer taste and preference. There will be paradigm shift in consumption of locally manufatured food due to availability of several choices of food present at the counters. Many customers would prefer to purchase food from multinational comapanies. This will not only overlook the domestic foods but also create competition to internal market. For example, fast food gain popularity over the fresh food produced directly from the farm since fast food are quick to cook.

In conclusion, globalisation of food products have both benefits and disadvantages to local consumers. It has leads to production of superior food to the market, nevertheless, is has created stiff competiton to local cuisines. In my opinion, this is a positive development due to many benefits it offers to local consumerism

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the negative and positive aspects of globalized food supply before clearly stating the writer's position as positive. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For example, the point about processed food and bureau standards in the second paragraph is somewhat generalized and lacks deep elaboration. The reasoning touches upon relevant ideas such as consumer choice, domestic market competition, and food quality, fulfilling the requirements for a solid mid-level score while leaving room for more fully supported arguments to reach higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, where each paragraph has a discernible focus. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions, such as 'While this trend offers some downsides' and 'In conclusion'. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or slightly awkward, as seen in the phrasing 'It is argued that global market is standardized, this means that...'. Referencing and logical progression are generally maintained throughout the text, allowing the reader to follow the writer's line of thought without significant confusion, though more fluent and flexible linking would elevate the structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'paradigm shift', 'multinational', and 'globalisation'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and spelling errors that reflect a mid-level band, including 'competion', 'comapanies', and 'consumerism' used in place of 'consumer'. Collocations and word forms occasionally falter, such as 'access of wide variety' instead of 'access to a wide variety' and 'bereau standards', though these inaccuracies do not seriously impede overall communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at varied clause structures. However, there are persistent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly regarding article usage, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions. Examples include 'consumers are abled to access', 'processed food are ensured they attained', 'fast food gain popularity', and missing commas or spacing issues like 'In recent days , consumers'. These errors are frequent enough to reflect a developing control of grammar, though they rarely impede the reader's understanding of the main message.
