Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is often argued whether buying international foods is beneficial. In numerous countries today, people can buy a wide variety of food imported from all over the world in supermarkets. While some argue this trend has drawbacks, I firmly believe it is a largely positive development.
One major advantage is that this trend provides a greater variety and better nutrition. This means that people can eat balanced diet all year throughout the year. For instance, In Pakistan, we can get olive oil, avocados, kiwis from other countries in winter, which improves health. As a result, people are no longer limited to locally grown food and have a wide range of choices.
Another significant benefit is that it promotes cultural diversity and economic benefits. People can try international cuisines, that helps them to understand other cultures. On the other hand, it supports exporters and farmers in developing countries who earn more through global trade. Furthermore, the competition between local and imported products often leads to better quality and more affordable prices for consumers. This international trade also creates employment opportunities and supports the income of farmers in developing countries. Although some argue that transport of the food items can cause environmental pollution but i believe benefits clearly outweighs the drawbacks.
In the conclusion, although importing food may have some environmental drawbacks, I believe it is a positive development overall. It provides consumers with greater choice and better nutrition, while also supporting global trade and cultural exchange. Therefore, the benefits clearly outweighs the disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction—“I firmly believe it is a largely positive development”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address the question with relevant benefits, including year-round access to varied foods, cultural exchange, and income for exporters and farmers; the Pakistan example also helps make the nutrition point concrete. This covers the task well, but the ideas are not equally developed. The environmental drawback is acknowledged only briefly, without explaining its effects or weighing it against the benefits in detail. Some claims, such as imported food improving health and competition making prices more affordable, would also benefit from clearer explanation or support. Develop these points more fully to make the argument more convincing and complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting benefits, and a conclusion that restates your position. The progression from consumer choice to cultural and economic effects is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “One major advantage” and “Furthermore” help guide the reader. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, with several points introduced in a list-like way rather than linked through explanation. The economic benefits are repeated in the second body paragraph, particularly support for farmers and their income. The phrase “On the other hand” also suggests a contrast, although the point that follows supports your position. Use more precise transitions and develop each paragraph around a distinct, connected line of reasoning.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “cultural diversity,” “global trade,” “environmental pollution,” and “employment opportunities.” These choices communicate your ideas clearly, and you attempt some topic-specific phrasing. At times, however, word choice and collocation are imprecise or repetitive. “Better nutrition” is asserted without specifying the nutritional benefit, while “supports the income of farmers” is less natural than a more direct expression. “Food items” is also rather general in this context. There are a few presentation slips, such as the lowercase “i” and capitalised “In” after a comma. Aim for more precise collocations and avoid repeating the same economic idea in slightly different wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession with “Although” and a relative clause in “farmers in developing countries who earn more.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors reduce accuracy. For example, “eat balanced diet” needs an article, and “benefits clearly outweighs” has a subject–verb agreement error; the same agreement problem appears in the conclusion. The sentence beginning “Although some argue…” also needs clearer punctuation and a complete contrast structure, and “people can try international cuisines, that helps” incorrectly joins the clause with a comma. Review articles, agreement, and punctuation around subordinate clauses, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
