Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, in many countries the buyers can go to a supermarket and buy food produced all over the world. some people believe that it's a positive development and some people believe that it's a negative development. In my opinion it's a positive development for a country that the purchasers can go in the supermarket and buy food produced all over the world.

In my opinion its a good thing that the food produced all over the world are presented in supermarkets and can go and buy. The people can have access to different variety of food that that they can buy. The people can try different types of cuisines and food that are not available in the local market for example in Pakistan there are Italian pasta, Turkish sweets and other types of cuisines.

Supermarket can create a good amount of trade between the traders and can benefit their business.

however, there are some disadvantages that the prices are high , can pollute the environment while importing food over long distance and increased in the cost of transportation. despite the fact there are more advantages that the consumers can have great choices and can provide business in the global market for the food industries.

In conclusion, I believe that the food produced all over the world can improve the business. It provides consumers with the great choices and introduce them with different cultures. and provide more opportunities for the retailers. and encourage them to give good quality of food worldwide.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you consider worldwide supermarket food a positive development, mainly because it gives consumers more choice, introduces them to other cuisines, and supports trade. The Pakistan examples—Italian pasta and Turkish sweets—help make the point relevant. You also acknowledge disadvantages such as pollution and higher transport costs, but these are only briefly stated, and the response does not explain why the benefits outweigh them in much detail. The business benefits are repeated rather than developed with a specific example. The response contains 228 words, so it is 22 words below the required minimum; this limits the space available to develop and support your ideas. Add fuller explanations and examples for both sides.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a paragraph supporting your view, a paragraph mentioning disadvantages, and a conclusion. This gives the reader a basic route through your argument. However, progression is limited: the conclusion repeats points about choice and business rather than drawing the discussion together, and the disadvantages paragraph shifts quickly from costs to your positive position. Linking words such as “however” and “despite the fact” are used, but the relationship between ideas is not always clear. Some sentences are fragments or joined awkwardly, particularly the final lines beginning “and provide” and “and encourage.” Use complete sentences and organise each paragraph around one clearly developed point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “consumers,” “cuisines,” “importing,” “transportation,” and “global market.” The examples of Italian pasta and Turkish sweets also make the discussion more specific. However, vocabulary is repetitive, especially “food,” “people,” “good,” and “business,” and several phrases are unnatural or imprecise, such as “different variety of food,” “a good amount of trade,” and “provide business.” These choices sometimes make the intended meaning less clear. Aim for more precise collocations and vary repeated nouns—for example, distinguish between imported products, consumer choice, and international trade. Check word forms and phrasing when revising, while keeping the language clear rather than forcing overly advanced vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “however” and a concession beginning “despite the fact.” However, errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “the food produced all over the world are presented” has subject–verb disagreement, while “there are Italian pasta” has an incorrect structure. The opening also begins a new sentence with lowercase “some,” and the conclusion contains sentence fragments: “and provide more opportunities” and “and encourage them.” There are also problems with articles and sentence boundaries. Practise building accurate complete sentences first, then combine them using conjunctions; check agreement, punctuation, and whether each sentence has a clear subject and verb.
