Student answer (Band 5.5)
In many regions of the world, supermarkets have established convenience for customers to acquire global producs in one place. Although, it has some benefits to it but in my opinion, it is an negative development as capitalism is affecting small business vendors. Shopping from one place will improvise the experience of consuming local products.
To begin with, big shopping centers of such big companies has took over local markets in mant countries. It is significantly hurting the local businesses economically. Its direct effects can be seen as low per capita income of locals and higher inflation. The solutions for this problems can only be derived by the authorities with such strict policies and guidelines to limit the shopping centers and create balance in the economy. For instance, in city like Mumbai, locals are the victim, of capitalism as supermarkets are taking over. Hence, their business income is gradually decreasing. However, authorities are taking necessary steps to ensure locals intrests.
Furthermore, supermarkets provides convenience for consumers to explore all the varieties of products and their alternatives in one place, while consuming less time and energy while shopping. However, shopping local in itself is an amazing experience and also come with many benefits, such as bargaining prices, fresh and local producs, boosts local connections and more environmental friendly. These experiences and benefits would be missed out by consumers who choose to shop in shopping centers.
In conclusion, supermarkets in many countries avails products from all over the world, no doubt has some advantages of it. However, in my senses, it has many flaws such as capitalism and ruining the experience and benefits of shopping local.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you regard worldwide supermarket food as a negative development, mainly because large retailers can harm local businesses and reduce the benefits of shopping locally. You also acknowledge convenience as an advantage, so the response addresses both sides of the question. The Mumbai example helps make the economic concern more concrete. However, some claims need fuller explanation: the link between supermarkets and “higher inflation” is asserted rather than demonstrated, and the final paragraph repeats the drawbacks without adding much support. Develop the effects on local vendors with a specific explanation or example, and make clearer how the advantages and disadvantages lead to your overall judgement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The first body paragraph focuses on local businesses, while the second considers consumer convenience and local shopping, giving the reader a generally coherent route through your argument. Linking expressions such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” help signal this structure. At times, however, connections between ideas are abrupt or unclear. For example, the move from harm to local businesses to “low per capita income” and “higher inflation” needs an explicit explanation. The conclusion also largely repeats earlier points. Use clearer cause-and-effect links and ensure each paragraph develops one central point progressively.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “capitalism,” “per capita income,” “alternatives,” and “environmental friendly,” and the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts to express nuanced points, such as the contrast between convenience and the social benefits of local shopping. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation and spelling reduce precision: “improvise the experience” does not convey the intended meaning, “avails products” is unnatural, and “producs” and “intrests” are misspelled. Some phrases, including “shopping centers of such big companies,” are also awkward or repetitive. Choose more natural collocations and check spelling and word forms so your vocabulary communicates your argument more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a concession with “Although” and a contrast using “while.” Meaning is usually recoverable, but errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “big shopping centers … has took over” should use a plural subject with a correct past-tense verb, and “supermarkets provides” has a subject–verb agreement error. The opening sentence beginning “Although” is also not joined correctly to the main clause. Review agreement and verb forms, and practise building complete sentences with subordinate clauses. More accurate control of these patterns would make your argument easier to follow.
