Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, people prefer to buy foods from supermarkets because they enjoy while eating a different countries food. Although some people believe that this trend may have disadvantages, I think it is a positive development because it provides consumers with more choices.

First and foremost, people can easily try new food from foreign countries. One major advantage is that people can enjoy wide variety of food products in their home country. In the past, residents have limited choices with local produced food, but today they can easily buy different types foods, vegetables and other items too, which are imported from various countries. For instance, people who live in Canada, previously there were no any India foods and stores available, at that time they remember their home country food, but now there are many Indian food stores which are open and they can buys all types of Indian foods from that particular shop.

Another benefit is that this allows people to experience different cultures through foods and improves their eating experience. Additionally, some fruits and vegetables are seasonal and can only be grown during certain months, by the help of the import facilities supermarket can easily stocked that goods for whole year. As a result, consumer can enjoy those foods anytime when they want.

On the other hand, some individuals argue that this trend may have affect on prices because imported foods may be expensive. Also, local businesses suffer due to the large demand of international brands and affects on countries economic growth, as well as big impact on agriculture. However, the drawbacks are relatively minor compared with the benifits have wider variety of foods.

In conslusion, I believe that the avaibility of food from around the world in supermarket is a poisitive development because consumer have a greater choice to try various cuisines from other countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you consider worldwide food availability positive because it gives consumers more choice, and you return to this view in the conclusion. You also address the opposing view by mentioning higher prices and possible harm to local businesses and agriculture. These points are relevant, but they are not developed equally. The example of Indian food shops in Canada helps illustrate choice and access, although its connection to the wider benefits could be explained more precisely. The concerns about local businesses and economic growth are listed rather than supported with reasons or an example. To strengthen the response, explain the effects of these drawbacks and show why the benefits outweigh them more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs presenting benefits, a paragraph acknowledging drawbacks, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “First and foremost,” “Another benefit,” and “On the other hand” makes the direction of the argument easy to follow. However, some connections are mechanical, and a few references are unclear. For example, “by the help of the import facilities supermarket can easily stocked that goods” makes the relationship between imports and year-round availability difficult to follow. The first body paragraph also shifts from general choice to the Canada example without a smooth explanation of how it supports the point. Use clearer links between claims and examples, and make pronouns and references explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “imported,” “seasonal,” “variety,” “cuisines,” and “agriculture,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “eating experience” and “economic growth.” However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less natural: “local produced food,” “different types foods,” “benifits,” “conslusion,” and “avaibility.” Some phrases are also imprecise, such as “big impact on agriculture.” Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help you express the economic and cultural arguments with greater clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in the opening (“Although some people believe…”) and a conditional-style explanation of seasonal produce. The main argument is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. Examples include “people prefer to buy foods… because they enjoy while eating,” “residents have limited choices,” and “consumer can enjoy those foods.” The long Canada example also contains several clauses that are not controlled clearly, making it harder to follow. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, correct tense, and singular or plural agreement. Breaking long sentences into shorter, complete units would improve accuracy while retaining variety.
