Student answer (Band 5.5)

People have easier access to variey of food products selling in the nearest grocery shops and supermarkets. Now, many supermarkets sell foreign commodities, previously unavailabe to people of acertain area. This advancement has provided a lot of benefit to enjoy food from farway places which certainly outweighs some drawbacks with this new approach.

In the past, people had access to only locally grown foods. The emergence of versatile supermarkets reduced the trouble of looking for different categories of groceries from all over the place. This cut down the effort and made grocery shopping less time consumng. People can buy food made in different countries without having to visit those countries. This can illustrated by the fact that Japanese food such as sushi and rice cakes are widely consumed all over the world in ready to cook styles in different food markets.

This wide consumption not only make a specific country famous but also generates an excessive revenue from the food exchange trade. Although this same reason has resulted in the expensive prices for such foods, it has only led to the wide popularity of international food choices. Many people often impulsively purchase such commodities eventhough they are already on tight budget. But this can be easily solved by self control and prefering the purchasing of staple food.

Supermarkets get excessive advantage from investing in food products from different nations, generating a large sum of net profit. This should not led to the purchasing of overly priced products when similar alternatives are availve in cheaper prices.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You give a clear position: access to international food is beneficial, despite some drawbacks. The response addresses both sides by discussing convenience, cultural exposure and trade revenue, then acknowledging higher prices and impulsive spending. The sushi and rice-cake example helps make the point concrete. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others. The claim that international food makes a country famous is asserted rather than explained, and the final paragraph shifts to supermarket profits and expensive products without clearly connecting this to your overall evaluation. Develop the drawbacks and explain why the benefits outweigh them with a more direct comparison.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, paragraphs presenting benefits and drawbacks, and a concluding point. Ideas generally follow a sensible order, and linking expressions such as “In the past,” “Although,” and “But” help signal relationships. However, progression is not consistently clear. The third paragraph moves from cultural popularity to revenue, prices, and consumers’ budgets, while the final paragraph introduces supermarket profits without a clear transition or a firm concluding summary. Some references, such as “This same reason,” are not precise about which preceding idea they refer to. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each paragraph explicitly to your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic vocabulary, including “locally grown foods,” “food exchange trade,” “staple food,” and “net profit,” and the meaning is usually understandable. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural choices that limit precision, such as “excessive revenue” and “excessive advantage,” where more suitable collocations are needed. Spelling errors—including “variey,” “unavailabe,” “consumng,” and “prefering”—are noticeable, as are forms such as “farway” and “acertain.” These do not generally prevent understanding, but they reduce control. Check spelling carefully and favour natural combinations such as “generate revenue” and “benefit from.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a concessive clause beginning “Although” and a relative clause in “food products from different nations, generating…”. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “This can illustrated” needs a passive verb form, “This wide consumption not only make” has subject–verb disagreement, and “This should not led” uses an incorrect verb form. The sentence beginning “People have easier access” also needs an article or a plural construction. Review verb forms, agreement, and articles, then proofread each sentence. More consistently accurate complex sentences would make your reasoning easier to follow.
