Student answer (Band 5.0)

Food is a basic necessity for every person in the world. In recent years, in many countries people can go to a supermarket and buy food that is produced all over the world. In my opinion, it is a positive development in the world, with many useful upsides.

To commence with, supermarket is a very beneficial development in all over the world. It is a matter of everyday observation that consumers from different countries, can now go into a supermarket and buy a variety of utility produced all over the world. To illustrate, when people go to a store, they can buy any item they require, instead of going to another country to buy that item. Moreover, this development has also reduced the fuel cost for many individual's. For example, if a person go to a nearby, supermarket in their area they can easily buy the required product without any extra fuel cost. Furthermore, development of supermarket have many perks for the consumers as many supermarket offer online services such as, home delivery. To substantiate my point, if a person is feeling tired or not feeling well, so they can order the required products on their door steep which provides convenience to an ill person. As a result, their are many advantages of a supermarket as it provides convenience and a wide range of variety.

In contrast, supermarket is also considered as a negative development. As we all know, superstores can be crowded during peak days. For instance, in the start of the month, when people recieve their salaries they go to buy food and other products which causes extra crowd. In addition, some people think that going to a supermarket is time consuming. To demonstrate, when people shop all the required items, a the time of billing they need to stand in queues which is time consuming. Hence, every person have a different perspective about the supermarkets.

In the view of the above discussion, It can be concluded that supermarket is a positive development as it provides a variety of food at one place, which reduces transport cost and it is also convenient for people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You state a clear overall view in the introduction and conclusion: access to international food is a positive development. However, the response only partially addresses the specific issue of food produced around the world. Much of the first body paragraph shifts to general supermarket benefits, such as online delivery and avoiding travel to another country, while the opposing paragraph discusses queues and crowding rather than drawbacks of globally sourced food. The ideas about convenience and variety are relevant but are asserted more than explained, and the examples do not show their wider effects. To strengthen the response, keep each point tied to international food availability and develop reasons such as consumer choice, year-round access, or effects on local producers and transport.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “To commence with,” “In contrast,” and “In the view of the above discussion” make the intended structure visible. However, progression is uneven: the first body paragraph moves from buying products without travelling abroad to fuel costs and online delivery, so its central focus becomes unclear. The contrast paragraph also presents supermarket inconveniences without clearly connecting them to the question about food from around the world. Several linking phrases feel mechanical, and “Hence, every person have a different perspective” does not clearly follow from the examples. Group related points and use transitions that show the precise relationship between them.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough vocabulary to communicate a general position and give examples, including “basic necessity,” “convenience,” “variety,” and “time consuming.” However, the range is limited by repetition of “supermarket,” “development,” and “people,” and some choices are inaccurate or unnatural. For example, “a variety of utility” does not express the intended meaning, and “door steep” appears to be an incorrect form of “doorstep.” “Extra crowd” and “different perspective about the supermarkets” are also imprecise in context. These choices sometimes make the reader pause, although the main message remains understandable. Build topic-specific vocabulary for food imports and their effects, and check collocations and spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, using clauses introduced by “when,” “if,” and “as,” but complex constructions are often faulty and errors occur frequently. Examples include “if a person go” and “every person have,” where subject–verb agreement is incorrect, and “supermarket have many perks,” which also needs agreement and an appropriate article. The sentence beginning “if a person is feeling tired … so they can order” combines clauses incorrectly, while “a the time of billing” contains a faulty article pattern. Punctuation is also inconsistent, including unnecessary commas after “countries” and “supermarket.” Practise accurate agreement, articles and clause construction, then proofread each sentence for a complete, correctly connected structure.
