Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, there has been a growing trend in many countries, where people visit supermarket and conume international food. This trend should be considered a positive development because it provides benefits, such as accessibility and global trade.

There are many reasons why I consider buying food from all over the world is a positive development. One of the main reasons is that it provides access to rare items, which are unlikely to produced at certain locations. Since some nations lack specific products, they can import it from other countries. For example, this development allow people to get access to different clothes, foods and international technology. Moreover, it foster the deplomatic relationships between countries. When a nation requires particular resources, they borrow it from other countries. For instance, KSA import a significant quantity of wheet from Pakistan, with the exchange of oil.

That being said, some individuals tend to argue that this trend of consuming international goods can bring some drawbacks. They believe that the nations begin to rely on others. They not only import goods but become too stubborn to produce it by themselves. As a result, they become dependent on other nations. For example, instead of cultivating their own crops, they purchase it from others. Thus, the supply of these goods can by disturbed anytime, as a result of wars and natural disasters.

In conclusion, while this trend of purchasing global food in supermarkets can pose threat to the nation like independency, it has many advantages, such as accessibility and strong international relationships. Hence, I believe this makes it a positive development overall.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you consider access to international food a positive development, while acknowledging possible dependence on imports. The discussion of access to products unavailable locally and the wheat-for-oil example gives relevant support, and you address both benefits and drawbacks. This meets the task well, though some points are not fully developed or closely tied to food. The reference to “different clothes” and “international technology” moves away from the specific topic, while the concern about dependence would be stronger with a clearer explanation of how imported food affects consumers or food security. Develop these ideas with more precise examples and show why the benefits outweigh the risk.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting your view, a counterargument, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “Moreover,” “That being said,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the progression, and the opposing view is acknowledged before your final judgement. Some connections are less clear or feel mechanical, however. For example, the move from rare food items to “clothes” and “international technology” broadens the paragraph away from its main focus. In the counterargument, “They” and “it” do not always make the intended reference fully clear. Keep each paragraph focused on one aspect of the question and use more precise referencing to make the links between claims and examples smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “access,” “import,” “dependent,” and “supply,” and phrases such as “diplomatic relationships” show an attempt to use less common language. However, the range and control are uneven, with several noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation problems: “conume,” “deplomatic,” “wheet,” and “pose threat” make the writing less polished. Some choices are also imprecise for this task, such as “borrow” for obtaining resources through trade and “stubborn” for a country that does not produce goods itself. Aim for accurate, natural combinations such as “import food,” “rely on foreign suppliers,” and “pose a threat,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a relative clause (“which are unlikely…”) and a concession structure (“while this trend… can pose…”). The main ideas remain understandable, but errors in sentence structure and grammatical forms recur. For example, “people visit supermarket” needs an article or plural, “unlikely to produced” needs a passive form, and “this development allow” needs subject–verb agreement. There are also problems with pronoun agreement in “they import it” when referring to plural goods, and the final sentence needs an article in “pose a threat.” Work on articles, agreement, passive constructions, and pronoun reference, while continuing to use complex sentences with careful checking.
