Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many people argue that in most of the countries these days, consumers go to supermarkets of all over the world and buy produced food from there. It has both postive and negative impact on the society but in my opinion, it's much more on the negative development side.

Consumers travelled to many supermarket over the world and buy different kinds of food which increase overall choices for the people to taste different things which are not available locally. By this, people can buy the things which they never tried, without travelling to other countries themselves. There are many vegetables and fruits which are not available locally and can't grow within the country due to weather conditions can be imported from other countries makes it easier for the people to buy and eat them.

There are several negative impacts of importing other countries food. The transportation process increase the air pollution by releasing the more carbon emission. Local farmers and other local consumers may face lesser number of sales as the other countries food imports in bulk that made it more affordable and much cheaper as compare to the local available food. The long distance travelled food is bad for the health when not preserved properly during the travelling and when people take and eat that food, it may cause obesity and food poisoning, whereas fresh local food is good for health as it preserved properly in safety containers when produced.

Conclusion, the imported food from other countries gives more choices to people and they can try something new which they never tasted but this have bad impact on local farmers and consumers which leads to economical loss as their sales will decreased, and long travelling time makes food bad to eat for people's health.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you acknowledge benefits such as wider choice and access to foods that cannot be grown locally, but conclude that the disadvantages outweigh them. This addresses both sides of the question and gives relevant reasons, including pollution and effects on local farmers. However, some points are not fully explained or are unclear. For example, the claim that imported food may cause obesity and food poisoning is asserted without showing how importing itself leads to these outcomes; the comparison with fresh local food needs more precise support. Develop fewer points in greater depth, using a specific example or explanation for each, and make the link between your evidence and your overall negative judgement explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph on benefits, a paragraph on disadvantages, and a conclusion. This gives the reader an overall logical route through your argument. You also use basic linking expressions such as “There are several negative impacts” and “but,” which help signal contrast. At times, however, connections are mechanical or unclear. The opening sentence is difficult to follow, and “By this” does not clearly identify the process it refers to. The final paragraph repeats several earlier points rather than drawing them together. Use clearer referencing and transitions, and organise each body paragraph around one main idea followed by its explanation and example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “air pollution,” “carbon emission,” “local farmers,” and “weather conditions,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “transportation process” and “preserved properly.” However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling reduce precision: “postive” is misspelled, “supermarket of all over the world” is unnatural, and “economical loss” does not express the intended idea as naturally as “economic losses.” Repetition of “food,” “people,” and “local” also limits flexibility. Build accuracy with common topic collocations and check spelling, while choosing precise terms rather than adding vocabulary that does not fit the meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “which are not available locally” and a contrast introduced by “whereas.” This shows some range, and the overall meaning can usually be followed. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction occur in several places. For example, “which increase overall choices” needs a singular verb if it refers to the act of buying, while “this have bad impact” has agreement and article problems. The sentence beginning “There are many vegetables and fruits…” also combines clauses without a clear grammatical structure. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and breaking long sentences into controlled clauses; this will make your complex ideas clearer and more accurate.
