In many countries nowadays, consumers can go to a supermarket and buy food produced all over the world.
Do you think this is a positive or negative development?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this present world, food from different nationalities is accessible from any part of the earth and thus consumers can enjoy their favourite food despite of their living country. In my opinion, this is a positive development to promote globalization.
On the one hand, people often missed those food and traditional dishes from different part of countries, they had visited. The access to international foods make people connected to different societal cultures. In addition to it, now a days people are more focused to try new foods and experience the taste of different cuisines. For example, in Pakistan, youth is now more leaned towards the arabic and turkish continental cuisines. The taste of different nationalities helps a person in experiencing the connection with the host country.
On the other hand, this development promotes the opportunities of employment by generating new food businesses. In past, the restaurants were more focused to sell their most popular dish and we often saw that they only have limited number of dishes to serve. But presently, the hotels are focusing to provide variety of tastes in order to attract and retain their customers. Thus the dimensions of food business is clearly diverted towards the number of options, a restaurant is offering. Additionally, another aspect is related to health consciousness. Individuals are now more focused on their fitness, thatswhy they are adopting the Chinese and Japanese foods to stay medically fit.
At the end, I must say that international foods are only bringing the positivity in our society by introducing new economic opportunities and experience of different cultures along with their traditional customs.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you consider worldwide food availability a positive development, and the conclusion restates this view. You address relevant benefits, including cultural exposure, consumer choice, and employment through new food businesses. The examples of Pakistani young people trying Arab and Turkish cuisine and restaurants expanding their menus help make the discussion specific. This meets the task well, but the support is uneven: the employment point is asserted rather than explained in detail, and the claim that Chinese and Japanese food helps people “stay medically fit” needs qualification or evidence. To strengthen the response further, develop each main reason with a clearer explanation of how it benefits consumers or society.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a concluding paragraph. The ideas are generally relevant and the reader can follow the overall argument. However, the first body paragraph combines nostalgia, cultural connection, and trying new cuisines without clearly showing how these points relate. Some linking is mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “Additionally” and “Thus,” while “At the end” is an awkward signal for a conclusion. Improve progression by giving each paragraph a clear central idea, ordering its supporting points logically, and using referencing and transitions that show the precise relationship between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “globalization,” “traditional dishes,” “cuisines,” “employment,” and “health consciousness.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “food from different nationalities,” “more leaned towards,” and “the dimensions of food business is clearly diverted.” “Continental cuisines” is also unclear in this context. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim to use familiar, accurate collocations—for example, “food from different countries,” “are increasingly interested in,” and “the food industry is shifting towards offering more choice”—before attempting more elaborate phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “despite” and “in order to,” and most of the argument remains understandable. Some grammatical errors occur, however, particularly with agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence construction. For example, “The access to international foods make people connected” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “those food” and “different part of countries” show errors in number and article use. The sentence beginning “people often missed those food” also joins ideas with a comma where clearer sentence boundaries are needed. Review agreement and countable nouns, and proofread each sentence for a complete, correctly punctuated structure. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentences easier to read.
