Student answer (Band 4.5)
There is an ongoing arguements regarding the purchase of food products that are produced in other countries. Some people think that this had no negative impact while some believes that this is not a good practice. I personally believe that this is a negative development. So, lets discuss this.
Firstly, purchasing imported items is a negative practice because this may impact on the economy of that country you are living in, and this is because purchasing unnecessary import items are not beneficial as if there is any substitute which is produced locally then give it a try and also that product will also result you cost saving because due to local production it becomes cheap in price.
Then the people those think it doesn't have any impact. Purchasing imported items not only costs you more and sometimes it may be of the cheaper quality than the product available and produced locally. And also the imported product impact on country's economy that may results in increased prices of all the basic daily essentials due to the decrese in economic growth of a country.
In conclusion, people should use the available substitute of expensive products if those are of good quality. This is a positive development and also help to enhance the country's GDP by using the locally manufactured products.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
Your position is stated clearly: you consider access to imported food a negative development, and you give relevant reasons about local businesses, prices and the national economy. However, the response addresses the question only partially. The discussion focuses almost entirely on economic disadvantages and does not consider other effects of buying food from around the world, such as greater choice or access to products unavailable locally. Some claims, including that imports may raise the prices of daily essentials, are asserted without explanation or an example. The conclusion also calls the development “positive,” contradicting your stated position. The response is 33 words below the required minimum, which further limits the opportunity to develop and support your ideas. Explain your reasons with specific examples and keep your position consistent.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the reader can identify your main position and economic focus. However, progression between ideas is not always clear. The second body paragraph begins, “Then the people those think it doesn't have any impact,” but it does not clearly explain or respond to that opposing view; it instead repeats the point about economic harm. Linking phrases such as “Firstly,” “And also” and “In conclusion” are used, but some connections feel mechanical or do not show the precise relationship between claims. The final sentence also conflicts with the essay’s earlier direction, weakening the overall flow. Organise each paragraph around one clear point, explain how it supports your position, and use transitions that make those links explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “imported items,” “substitute,” “economic growth” and “locally manufactured products,” so the main subject is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, particularly repeated references to “purchasing imported items” and “impact on the economy.” Some word choices and collocations make meaning less natural, as in “unnecessary import items,” “cost saving” and “cheaper quality.” There are also spelling and word-form errors, including “arguements” and “decrese.” Aim for more precise expressions and check spelling carefully. For example, you could distinguish between “food imports,” “domestic producers” and “consumer choice,” rather than relying on the same general terms throughout.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “if there is any substitute which is produced locally,” and most of the intended meaning can be understood. However, the range is limited, and attempts to combine several ideas often produce faulty sentences. For example, “purchasing unnecessary import items are not beneficial as if there is any substitute…” has problems with subject–verb agreement and sentence construction. Other errors include “some believes,” “this had no negative impact,” and “that may results,” showing inconsistent agreement and verb forms. Punctuation also needs attention: there is no space after the full stop in “countries. Some,” and the opening sentence is awkwardly joined. Use shorter, controlled sentences first, then practise combining them accurately with clauses.
