In many countries nowadays, consumers can go to a supermarket and buy food produced all over the world.

Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 4.5)

This is the positive development in my point of view because it makes things more satisfying to happen in a disciplined way. Because people do not have einugh time each and every things of daily routine in a month. They havce limited time to go only on holiday or other weekend to do such things. Because the keep themselve busy in there office routines and other market works. For example we can buy each and every thing imported form another country in a good price rather than to buy it on there official website or we to purchase aorder online and have to make there own shipping. For example the people of Pakistan exporting the football and sports items to make therr economy weell established . They are also exporting the surgical instruments around teh world too. We are importing the dates and other such dry food items from the Arab countries that are not easily availabel in our country. As i am a veterinarian so i am most concerned with the better health of my patients for there better recovery without any major surgical intervention. I visit every month supermarket of acccessories of animals and new instruments that are not present in Pakistan. For example last week i purchased the Ultrasound doppler endoscopic machine for the mqajor surgaical intervetions.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear at the start: you consider worldwide food availability a positive development. You also include relevant examples, such as importing dates and buying equipment in Pakistan, which show how international trade can benefit consumers and professionals. However, the response only partially answers the question because it does not clearly explain the benefits of buying food from many countries; much of the discussion shifts to sports goods and veterinary instruments. Several points are asserted rather than developed, and the opening claim about saving time is difficult to follow. The response is also 30 words below the required minimum. To strengthen it, explain two food-related advantages, support each with a specific example, and develop your reasoning more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a recognisable positive position, and examples are introduced with phrases such as “For example” and “As I am a veterinarian,” so the reader can identify some supporting details. However, the ideas are not arranged into clear paragraphs, and the response moves abruptly from time-saving to exports, imported dates, and veterinary equipment. Repeating “Because” at the start of sentences creates fragments rather than a clear progression. Some links between claims are also unclear, particularly how exporting Pakistani products supports the argument about consumers buying food from around the world. Organise the essay into an introduction, focused body paragraphs, and a conclusion, and use linking phrases to show how each example supports your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt some topic-related vocabulary, including “importing,” “exporting,” “economy,” and “surgical instruments,” and these choices help communicate parts of your examples. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or awkward, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to follow. For instance, “more satisfying to happen in a disciplined way” does not clearly express the intended benefit, while “each and every thing” is repeated and imprecise. There are also frequent spelling errors, including “einugh,” “availabel,” and “intervetions.” Use more precise terms connected to food availability, choice, and prices, and proofread spelling. Replacing vague phrases with natural collocations will make your argument clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to connect ideas using subordinate clauses and examples, but the range of sentence structures is limited, and many sentences contain errors that make the message difficult to understand. For example, “Because people do not have enough time each and every things of daily routine in a month” is an incomplete clause with an unclear structure. “They have limited time to go only on holiday or other weekend” also has problems with articles, number, and sentence construction. The final sentence contains several grammatical problems that obscure what was purchased and why. Practise writing complete subject–verb sentences, then combine related ideas with accurate clauses. Check articles, plurals, and punctuation before submitting.
