Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the modern era, consumers have more food choices available in supermarkets than the past. This a hot topic of global debate whether this development is positive or imposes a negative impact.

As far as i am concerned, availability of variety of food produce globally in the grocery stores has a quite positive impact on the consumers. A compelling reason for this might be the fact that the genral public does not have to travel to the respective country to taste its cuisine. It enables the buyers to get a multi-cultural experience of various international cuisines without having the need to travel a thousand miles. For instance, Pakistani mangoes are quite popular among the foreigners and they only got the delight to eat them when they visited the country before but now they are imported and available in the nearest markets easily. So this suggests that the consumers can conveniently get th food they prefer.

Another example to mention is the Korean ramen which is famous among the people all over the world, it was available only in Korea before but now it is sold in almost every country, every general supermarket.

In contrast many experts suggest it is a negative development leading perplexing the consumers in their product choices. A variety of food can lead to unnecessary confusion among the consumers parrallel to wastage. It also may lead to deterioration of food during importation and shipping. Statistics indicate food deterioration and spoilage every year during transportation leading to its ultimated disposal. Even if this problem is sorted there is a hazard of food poisoning due to the consumption of chemicals intended to preserve the food.

To sum up, the availability of variety of food may have drawbacks and positive impacts but it has my support

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you support the availability of international food, and you give relevant examples such as Pakistani mangoes and Korean ramen. You also acknowledge drawbacks, including spoilage and possible food-safety risks, so the response addresses both sides of the question. The positive case is more fully explained, while the negative points are introduced briefly and are not weighed against your overall position. Some claims, such as consumers becoming confused by choice and statistics showing spoilage, would benefit from a specific explanation or example. The conclusion states your support, but it could more directly summarise why the benefits outweigh the disadvantages. This is a relevant, developed response, though some ideas need fuller support for a stronger result.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting international food, a contrasting paragraph, and a conclusion. The examples generally follow the points they illustrate, and transitions such as “For instance,” “In contrast,” and “To sum up” help signal the direction of the argument. However, the progression is not always smooth: the Korean ramen example is presented as a separate point without explaining its significance, and the shift from consumer choice to spoilage and food poisoning is abrupt. Some linking phrases, including “Another example to mention,” feel mechanical, while the final sentence does not fully bring the argument together. Clearer links between each claim and its consequence would improve cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “availability,” “international cuisines,” “imported,” “spoilage,” and “food poisoning.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “A compelling reason” and “deterioration of food.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, for example “a quite positive impact,” “leading perplexing the consumers,” and “its ultimated disposal.” Spelling errors such as “genral” and “parrallel” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but more precise, natural phrasing would make the argument clearer and more convincing. Focus on learning common word partnerships rather than choosing formal-sounding expressions that do not fit the sentence.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “whether,” “which,” and “when,” and most of your meaning remains clear. Some sentences are controlled, such as “It enables the buyers to get a multi-cultural experience … without having the need to travel.” However, there are some errors in sentence structure and grammatical forms. For example, “This a hot topic” is missing a verb, and “whether this development is positive or imposes a negative impact” is not formed as a complete, balanced clause. In “the consumers can conveniently get th food they prefer,” the article and sentence punctuation need attention. Review complete sentence construction, articles, and parallel phrasing, while continuing to use complex clauses.
