Student answer (Band 6.0)

In a global world, the availability of international foods in a local supermarkets of many countries allow individuals to buy the essentials. I strongly believe it to be a positive development in term of variety, quality and economic growth that outweigh the negative aspects.

One of the main reason of its positive development is that it presents variey of food in the market. Individuals can buy many things of their prefernce, produced globally, under one roof at ease. They donot have to go to differnet places to buy food. For example, the american people can buy chineese sushi products in their local market. Similarly, for food seasoning, indian spices can be bought from the market. This international presence of edibles make it easy for people to buy instantly without wasting time to look for them on various local food stores.

Another main reason is the quality of food available to the consumers. Many health conscious people rely on nutrient rich fruits and vegetables to maintain their balanced diet. For example, in Austria guavas are mainly imported from other countries because of its protein enrichment. This assist individuals to consume the fruit to balance nutrients in their diet. Also it involves in global economic growth through the import of their local products in an international market.

Conversely, this global food availability has some adverse effects on environment and local supply chain. The import and export of food mainly involves transportain through ships that release alot of harmful gases in atmosphere causing environmental pollution. Also, the countries whose food market greatly rely on import of international products usually get affected of frequent delays in transportation because of borders closing and sea disruptions.

In conclusion, the availability of global food in supermarket is beneficial for people. Although it has some negative aspects but the availability of food in form of variety, quality, and economic growth proves to be beneficial for many countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you consider worldwide supermarket food a positive development, mainly because it offers variety, quality and economic benefits. You address both sides by discussing convenience and nutrition before acknowledging pollution and supply disruptions, and examples such as imported spices and guavas help make the points relevant. However, the economic-growth claim is only briefly asserted (“it involves in global economic growth”) rather than explained, and the quality example does not clearly show how importing guavas ensures better quality. The negative effects are also less developed than the benefits. To strengthen the response, explain the causal links and support each main point with a more precise example, while keeping your position consistent.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs supporting your view, a paragraph on drawbacks, and a conclusion. The progression from variety to quality and then to disadvantages is easy to follow, and signposts such as “For example,” “Similarly,” and “Conversely” help guide the reader. Some linking is mechanical, however, and the repeated “Another main reason” pattern makes the development feel formulaic. A few references are unclear, such as “its protein enrichment,” where the pronoun’s reference is not fully secure, and the economic-growth point is attached abruptly to the nutrition discussion. Use more varied transitions and make the relationship between each example and its main claim explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “nutrient rich,” “environmental pollution,” “transportation,” and “supply chain,” and you attempt some less common expressions. However, noticeable spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural word combinations limit clarity and control: “variey,” “prefernce,” “differnet,” and “transportain” are examples, while “food seasoning” and “protein enrichment” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Phrases such as “global food availability” and “harmful gases” are understandable but broad. Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, for example “a wider range of foods,” “nutrient content,” and “greenhouse-gas emissions.” This would make your vocabulary more precise without requiring unnecessarily complex wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because” and “although,” and most of your meaning remains understandable. Some grammatical errors recur, particularly with agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence construction. For instance, “the availability … allow” needs a singular verb, while “One of the main reason” needs a plural noun. In “This assist individuals,” the verb form is incorrect, and “Although it has some negative aspects but…” combines two contrasting structures unnecessarily. There are also awkward constructions such as “get affected of frequent delays.” Review subject–verb agreement and article use, and practise building accurate contrast and cause-and-effect sentences. Greater control of these patterns would make your ideas easier to read.
