Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, quite a few countries have supermarts where customers can purchase food prepared globally. It is due to efficient means of transport to get the food. I believe it is a positive development because consumers can get the food they like from a specific country without the need for personally going there.

Supermarkets can import food from multiple countries easily. This is possible due to efficient means of transport such as air cargo and shipments. They can get containers of food in the span of days. For example, in a supermarket some customers said they want ramyeon noodles. Supermarket found that its Korean speciality so they had the ramyeon noodles imported from Korea to meet their customers demand.

I think this a positive development. Because the consumers can purchase the food they prefer by simply going to the supermarket rather than go to the country which actually produces that particular food. Customers save a lot of time and money because they do not have to travel. Nowadays many supermarkets even deliver so consumers can get the food they like delivered to their house.

For example, if a consumer wanted ramyeon noodles, he can either go to the supermarket or have it delivered to his house from the supermarket that has the food he wants.

In conclusion, customers can purchase food from all over the world from a supermarket. This is due to efficient modes of transport because supermarts can easily import food from multiple countries quickly. And its a good way for consumers to save money by simply purchasing food of their choice from a specific country by visiting the supermarket.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear: you consider worldwide food availability positive, mainly because it saves consumers the time and expense of travelling. You also give a relevant example involving Korean ramyeon noodles. However, the response addresses the question only partially because the discussion is narrow and repeats the same benefit in several places. The transport paragraph explains how supermarkets import food, but this is more about the process than a developed reason why the development is positive. The example is also hypothetical and does not add much detail about its effects. To strengthen the response, develop a second distinct benefit—such as greater food choice or access to cultural cuisines—and explain it with a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The essay has a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion, and the reader can follow the central view. However, progression between ideas is limited: the first body paragraph focuses on transport, while the next repeats the point that customers need not travel. The ramyeon example appears in both body paragraphs, which makes the organisation feel repetitive rather than cumulative. Some linking is also mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “For example” and the sentence beginning “Because the consumers…”. The conclusion restates the introduction without bringing the supporting points together. Give each paragraph a distinct purpose, use the example only once, and connect each reason to its consequence with clearer referencing and varied transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “consumers,” “import,” “air cargo,” and “deliver.” The reference to “ramyeon noodles” also makes the example specific. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “food prepared globally,” “supermarts,” and “its Korean speciality.” Repetition of “food,” “supermarket,” and “customers” further restricts flexibility. Aim for more precise collocations and vary key terms—for instance, distinguish imported products from food that is prepared abroad, and describe a supermarket as sourcing or stocking a product. These improvements would make the argument sound more natural and precise while retaining its clear meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use mostly straightforward sentence patterns and attempt some longer structures, such as “because consumers can get the food they like…”. Meaning is generally understandable, but errors recur in sentence formation and verb patterns. For example, “I think this a positive development” is missing “is,” and “rather than go to the country” needs a parallel form such as “rather than going.” In “if a consumer wanted ramyeon noodles, he can…,” the conditional forms do not match; use “could” or make both clauses present. The fragment “Because the consumers can purchase…” should be joined to the preceding sentence. Practise accurate complex sentences and check verb forms, articles and punctuation during revision.
