Student answer (Band 6.0)

In most of the countries around the globe, people now go to supermaket and buy food products from all over the world. I think it is a positive development because they can now enjoy food from all over the world and it give consumers more choice over the food the used to have.

In past, people had to buy food made locally or had to buy product only available in a certain season. Nowadays they can enjoy a wide variety of food from all over the world and whenever they want. Some food products are made only at a specific place so the having the ability to buy products made all around the world is a positive thing. For example, people in Pakistan used to have locally grown apples but now consumers living in Pakistan can enjoy apples from around the world, giving people alot of choices. Food available all around the year is also a great advantage of international trading.

One disadvantage of this can be shipping food from around the world can be costly and it can damage the environment. It can also affect local farmers if people do not prefer locally manufactured food products but I believe if government provide support to local farmers and take measure towards reducing the damage cause by the fuel, international food trade positives outways the negatives.

In conclusion, consumers having the choice of food from all over world is a positive development and the negative points can be reduced by taking certain measures.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you consider worldwide food availability positive because it offers greater choice and year-round access. You also address a counterargument by mentioning shipping costs, environmental damage and possible effects on local farmers, then suggest government support and measures to reduce fuel-related harm. These points make the response relevant and cover both sides. The Pakistan-and-apples example helps illustrate the benefit, but the discussion of seasonal availability and the proposed solutions is brief and somewhat general. To strengthen the response further, explain one example in more depth and show more specifically how the suggested measures would address the disadvantages.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, the body paragraphs present benefits and drawbacks, and the conclusion restates your position. Ideas generally progress in a sensible order, and linking expressions such as “For example,” “One disadvantage” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. However, some connections are mechanical, and the second paragraph combines several benefits without clearly separating or developing them. The sentence beginning “One disadvantage of this can be…” also joins several points in a long sequence, making the relationship between the drawback and your response less clear. Use more precise referencing and divide complex points into clearer sentences to improve flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “wide variety,” “locally grown,” “international trading” and “environment,” so the main ideas are understandable. There is some attempt to use more specific language, but word choice and collocation are not consistently controlled. For example, “locally manufactured food products” is not the most natural description of farm produce, and “alot” and “supermaket” contain spelling errors. Phrases such as “food from all over the world” are repeated several times, limiting the range. Build a more precise set of expressions for imports, seasonal availability and local agriculture, and check spelling and natural word combinations during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple sentences and some longer structures, including a conditional idea in “if people do not prefer locally manufactured food products” and a concession in the final body paragraph. The overall meaning remains clear, but errors in agreement, articles and sentence construction occur in several places. Examples include “it give consumers,” “In past,” “the food the used to have,” and “if government provide support.” The long sentence beginning “One disadvantage of this can be shipping…” also needs a clearer grammatical structure. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and article use, and break long sentences into manageable units. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentence forms easier to follow.
