Student answer (Band 6.0)
Consumer behaviour is the major tool that drives profitability in marketing. Many countries have experienced a growing reduction in patronage of local markets and indigenous food items as consumers now prefer to buy foreign produced food items sold in supermarkets. While this has its benefits, im of the opinion that it's disadvantages outweigh it's benefits for many reasons.
It is without doubt that technological advancements in agriculture have made food processing and preservation easy. Food items can therefore be imported from different parts of the world and made easily accesible to consumers in supermarkets. easy accesiblity and reduced cooking time make up the advantage of processed and foerign produced food. they also last longer by means of the preservatives added to them thereby removing the worry of spoilage when it stays too long with the consumer. it also offers variability of choices in contrast to the almost monotonous native food items grown locally.
However, the enormous disadvantages makes sticking with locally produced food a better option. First, it drives economic growth on a larger scale when resources are geared towards indegenous food production and not paying heavily on imported food items. More income can even be made when these local food items are packaged and exported to other countries instead of importing.
Another disadvantage is that exploring foreign food items can predispose one to health challenges as it has been reported that many chemicals are used to preserve them and improve their shelf lives on supermarket shelves. For example, noodles and pasta which have italian origin are now eaten in several other countries but have been shown to be high in chemicals and preservatives.
In conclusion, while forign food should be eaten by the populace, it shouldn't take the place of locally made food of which mode of preparation is well known

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you believe the disadvantages of internationally produced food outweigh the benefits, and the conclusion reinforces this view. You address both sides by mentioning convenience, longer shelf life and choice, then arguing for local economic benefits and raising possible health concerns. These are relevant points, but they are not equally developed. The economic argument would be stronger with a clearer explanation of how supermarket demand affects local producers, while the health claim relies on a broad assertion about chemicals and a limited example. The discussion of imported food also shifts at times to processed food, which is not necessarily the same issue. More precise support and a fuller explanation of this distinction would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on benefits, two paragraphs on disadvantages, and a conclusion. The contrast signalled by “However” helps the reader follow your position, and “First” introduces the economic point. The progression is generally logical, but some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “they also last longer” does not identify the food items as clearly as it could, and the benefits paragraph moves quickly from convenience to preservatives and variety. The conclusion is brief and does not fully draw together the two main disadvantages. Use clearer referencing and develop each paragraph around one central point, with transitions that show how the supporting example relates to it.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “profitability,” “patronage,” “preservatives,” “shelf lives” and “indigenous food production.” These choices show an attempt to discuss the issue beyond basic terms, although some are inaccurate or unnatural in context: “growing reduction in patronage” is awkward, and “easy accessibility” is repetitive. There are also spelling errors such as “accesible,” “foerign,” “indegenous” and “forign,” which reduce accuracy. Some wording is too broad, particularly the claim that imported foods are “high in chemicals.” Aim for precise, natural collocations and check spelling carefully; distinguishing “imported,” “processed” and “preserved” food would also make your argument clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including the concessive opening “While this has its benefits” and the relative clause “which have Italian origin.” Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. In “the enormous disadvantages makes,” the plural subject requires “make”; “it’s disadvantages” should be “its disadvantages”; and “it shouldn't take the place of locally made food of which mode of preparation is well known” needs a clearer relative construction, such as “whose preparation methods are well known.” Several sentences also begin with lowercase letters after full stops, and punctuation is inconsistent. Proofread agreement, possessives and sentence boundaries, while continuing to use varied sentence forms.
