IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In many countries nowadays, consumers can go to a supermarket and buy food produced all over the world.
Do you think this is a positive or negative development?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
In today's world, increased globalisation has made it easier for consumers around the globe, to buy any food produced in different parts of the world. Persnally, I believe it is a positive development, and i have discussed by views as following.
Firstly, this development enables people to easily try global cuisines. For instance, an individual who has never travelled any foreign country in his/her entire life, can simply try dishes of his/her desired travel destinations by purchasing them in a superstore, while being at home country. This development not only promotes culture of different countries by selling their food items across the globe, but most significantly helps people particularly in developing countries like pakistan, where people have low disposable incomes to experience global cuisines at negligible cost, compared to spendings made in travelling distinct nations to enjoy various food dishes.
Another benifit of such a development is that, it can improve counsumer's nutrients level. This is because, a large number of Indians mostly consume diet containing vegetables, so their protein intake is inadequate; therefore, if American-produced meat steaks are made available in Indian supermarkets, that can eventually encourage Indian households to try forign cuisines. As a result, this meat-based food consumption can raise protein intake among Indians; hence, making their diets more balanced in nutrients.
Admittingly, increased spread of foreign-produced food items can also suppress native cultural cuisines of any country. Becasue if supermarket owners increasingly keep foreign dishes onto the more visual shelfs, so that can incentivise households buying more of international food, and this way the intrest of people in prepairing local cuisines can gradually diminish.
To conclude, spread of internationally produced food-items is supported, due to its benefits of allowing even financially disadvantaged households to try their favorite travel destination's cuisines easily at home country, or that of improving nutrients intake among different communities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the introduction: you consider worldwide food availability a positive development, and the conclusion restates this view. You address the question with two relevant benefits—access to international cuisines and potentially more varied nutrition—and acknowledge a drawback concerning local food traditions. The examples about Pakistani consumers and Indian households help make the discussion concrete. However, the nutritional argument is less fully supported: the broad claim about Indian diets and the assumption that imported meat would improve nutrition need qualification or evidence. The counterargument is also brief and is not weighed against your overall position. Develop these points more carefully and explain why the benefits outweigh the cultural concern to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for two benefits and a drawback, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress logically, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Another benefit,” and “To conclude” help readers follow the argument. Some linking is less controlled, however. The first benefit paragraph contains several ideas in one long sentence, while the nutrition paragraph relies on a chain of “therefore,” “as a result,” and “hence,” making the reasoning feel mechanical. The counterargument begins with “Admittingly,” but its connection to the final position could be clearer. Use transitions more selectively, divide complex explanations into manageable sentences, and explicitly connect the drawback back to your judgement.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “globalisation,” “disposable incomes,” “cuisines,” and “protein intake,” and these choices communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “financially disadvantaged households.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “improve consumer’s nutrients level,” “try forign cuisines,” and “more visual shelfs” do not sound natural in context. Spelling errors, including “Persnally,” “benifit,” and “Becasue,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural combinations such as “improve nutritional intake” and “prominent shelf space,” and proofread carefully for spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional reasoning (“if American-produced meat steaks are made available…”) and a relative clause (“an individual who has never travelled…”). Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “I have discussed by views” has an incorrect possessive form, and “while being at home country” is missing an article. The opening sentence has an unnecessary comma after “around the globe,” and the long sentence beginning “For instance” contains several clauses that are not punctuated or structured clearly. In “if… so that can incentivise,” the conditional construction is not formed correctly. Review articles, possessives, punctuation, and conditional patterns, and break long sentences into clearer units.
