Student answer (Band 6.5)

In the modern era, accessing both locally sourced and imported food items has become significantly easier than in the past. People can visit the grocery market and buy food that is produced across the globe. I firmly believe that this is a positive development which has given ease to people and provided access to global food in the local market.

To begin with, access to buy imported food in the local food market will provide facility to people to purchase items that are not available locally and add a nutritional value in their diet. For instance, many countries import rice and vegetable from other countries because their soil is not suitable for that type of crop. Therefore, by this it ensure that citizens have that particular product available if they want or need it and they can consume easily.

In addition, availablity of shipped-in food raise the trades and economic opportunities between the countries. This gives a massives boost in the economy. For example, many countries in the world highly depends on the trade of crops and export of fruits because their system runs and survive on the agricultural deals.

However, some people often argue that importing food from a foreign country effects the enviroment. The emissions produced by the transporting vehicle plays a vital role in the enviromental pollution. For example, the shipment is supplied through airplanes or cargo ships and they are referred to produce global carbon emissions. Another factor is that sometimes the local farmer who struggle and worked hard have to face diffuclty in maintaining the prices of the items.

In conclusion, despite of valid environmental concern, the global distribution of food is a positive trend. This provide agricultural dependent countries a source of income while on the other hand, it provide variety of food to people across the globe.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you consider worldwide food availability a positive development, and you maintain this view in the conclusion while acknowledging environmental and farming concerns. The response addresses the question with relevant reasons, including access to foods that cannot be grown locally and economic benefits for exporting countries. Examples such as rice imports and agricultural exports help support these points. The counterargument also adds balance, although its effects on local farmers are mentioned briefly and not fully explained. Some claims, such as imported food adding nutritional value or trade giving a “massive boost” to economies, are broad and would be more convincing with a specific explanation or example. Overall, the task is addressed clearly, with ideas extended and supported, though some generalisations remain.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, separate paragraphs develop benefits and drawbacks, and the conclusion returns to your position. The progression from consumer access to economic effects and then environmental concerns is logical. Linking expressions such as “To begin with,” “In addition,” “However,” and “In conclusion” make the relationships between sections easy to follow. Within paragraphs, however, some connections are less smooth. For example, “Therefore, by this it ensure” does not clearly connect the example to its result, and the final sentence’s “while on the other hand” is awkwardly constructed. Use referencing and transitions more precisely, and make the relationship between each example and its main point explicit. This would make the otherwise clear organisation feel more fluent.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “locally sourced,” “imported,” “nutritional value,” “agricultural,” and “carbon emissions.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and there is some attempt to use less common expressions. However, inaccurate word forms, spelling, and collocations are noticeable and sometimes make the writing less natural: “availablity,” “massives boost,” “raise the trades,” and “effects the enviroment” are examples. Phrases such as “provide facility to people” and “the system runs and survive on the agricultural deals” are also unclear or unnatural. Aim for accurate, conventional combinations rather than more elaborate wording—for example, “increase trade” and “provide consumers with access.” More precise vocabulary would improve clarity and flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “that,” and “while,” and most of the main ideas remain understandable. However, errors occur frequently in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “availability … raise” should use a singular verb, while “it ensure” and “This provide” also need subject–verb agreement. In “many countries … highly depends,” the plural subject requires “depend.” The sentence beginning “Therefore, by this” is grammatically awkward, and the final sentence combines its contrast clauses incorrectly. These recurring problems limit accuracy, even though the intended meaning is generally recoverable. Practise checking each sentence’s subject and verb, and revise complex sentences into clear, complete clauses.
