Student answer (Band 6.5)

Globalization has alter the buyer preference in relation to purchasing groceries, which lead to most countries' supermarkets offering imported food products from around the globe.

I firmly believe that this a positive development due to the fact that selling food produced all over the world give consumers greater access and options on the products, which is crucial for their well-being. Some of the fruits and vegetables are not naturally tropically grown. For instance, grapes from Italy and rosemary from Australia, are naturally cultivated in a different climate. These food produced can be sell in a supermarket in the Philippines, which Filipinos can enjoy without leaving the country. As I witnessed, for example, Landers Supermarket offers food products outside Philippine-made produce, which help the consumers to experience different tastes , which enhance their satisfaction. Also, there are imported food products that can be beneficial for our health that are not accesible locally, like gensing roots and herbal from Japan and China.

I truly understand that some will disagree because it will be a disadvantage for our local farmers, having imported food products will increase competition. This competition will decrease the profit from agricultural busines. To my mind, This economic consideration can be answered if the government provides adequate programs to regulate this. However, this will not outweigh the pros by providing consumers the alternatives for a food products in different countries for them to enjoy and be satisfied in life.

In conclusion, supermarkets offering food produced from different countries offers a positive experience to the locals, by giving them options and access. However, the cons should be regulated by the government to ensure every stakeholder involved is considered.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear throughout: you consider worldwide food availability a positive development, while acknowledging pressure on local farmers. You support the benefits with relevant examples, including imported grapes and rosemary in the Philippines and access to foods such as ginseng. The opposing view is also addressed, and your conclusion returns to the same position. This covers the task well. To strengthen the response further, develop the farmer-impact point more specifically: explain how competition might affect livelihoods or local food production, then clarify how regulation could address it. The health benefit of imported products is also asserted rather than explained, so a more precise example or qualification would make the reasoning more convincing and less general.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting your view, a counterargument, and a conclusion. The progression from consumer choice to the effect on farmers is easy to follow, and phrases such as “For instance” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement and shows some movement towards more flexible organisation. However, links can feel mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “Also” and “However,” and some references are not fully clear, as in “this” in “this will not outweigh the pros.” Improve cohesion by making the relationship between claims explicit and varying transitions, while ensuring each pronoun clearly refers to an idea already stated.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including terms such as “imported food products,” “competition,” “agricultural,” and “stakeholder.” These choices allow you to discuss both consumer benefits and possible effects on farmers, and the meaning is generally clear. You also attempt less common vocabulary, but some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise: “buyer preference” is awkward in this context, “tropically grown” does not express the intended climate distinction, and “herbal” is unclear as a noun. Spelling slips such as “accesible,” “busines,” and “gensing” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural topic collocations and check spelling; this will make your argument sound more precise without requiring unnecessarily complex vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “due to the fact that” and a conditional idea about government regulation. The overall meaning remains understandable, but errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “Globalization has alter” needs a past participle, while “which lead” does not agree with its subject; “this a positive development” is missing a verb. In “These food produced can be sell,” the passive construction is not formed correctly. There are also awkward sentence boundaries and punctuation, such as the comma after “Australia.” Review subject–verb agreement, passive forms, and articles, then proofread each sentence for a complete and correctly formed clause.
