Student answer (Band 5.5)

The importance of food has become increasingly controversial in recent years with many people claiming that is beneficial. While others reject this notion. This eassy will further elaborate my views for favouring the positive and negative impact of this trend.

Analyzing the statement and explaining the further the first and foremost point behind this is that varies of choice. Consumers can enjoy fruits and vegeatbles that do not grow in our country. For example, people in Canada can buy mangoes from India to get new flavours and taste in their food. Another striking benefit in this regard is that it helps economy. Farmers from poor country can sell their products and earn money.

Moving further, there are some disadvantages. Firstly, they are very expensive in international market if buying and product and good from outside. For example, paying a double amount to get a product in the form of tax. Moreover, transport cost becomes very high. The prices of fuel and gas also rise. Lastly, the local farmers may lose their business and income.

In final reckoning, this essay tends to reiterate that buying good from all over the world although has some problems like, economy distrub and environmental pollution. I , believe the advantages are greater. People should try to balance both- buy local food when possible but also imported food.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear overall preference for the positive side, while acknowledging disadvantages, and your examples about Canadian consumers buying Indian mangoes and farmers gaining income are relevant. However, the position is not fully consistent: the opening says you will discuss the “positive and negative impact,” while the conclusion says the advantages are greater. Several points are asserted rather than explained, such as how imported food “helps economy” or why local farmers may lose income. The conclusion also introduces economic disruption and environmental pollution without developing these ideas in the body. The response is 28 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to explain and support your main reasons. Develop fewer points more fully and state your position consistently.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph on benefits, a paragraph on drawbacks, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “Moving further,” “Firstly,” and “Lastly” help signal the direction of the discussion. However, some linking is mechanical, and the opening sentence fragment, “While others reject this notion,” interrupts the flow. The progression within paragraphs is also uneven: the costs of imports, fuel prices, and local farmers’ losses are listed without clearly showing how these points connect. The conclusion adds new concerns rather than drawing together the reasons already discussed. Use clearer links between cause and effect, and make each paragraph develop one central idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “consumers,” “international market,” “transport cost,” and “local farmers,” and phrases such as “new flavours and taste” show an attempt to express the benefits of variety. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making meaning unclear: “varies of choice,” “helps economy,” and “economy distrub” do not express the intended ideas naturally. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “eassy,” “vegeatbles,” and “distrub.” Aim for accurate, natural combinations such as “a wider variety of food,” “boost the economy,” and “disrupt local markets.” Proofreading spelling and word forms would make your ideas easier to follow.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including “Consumers can enjoy fruits and vegetables that do not grow in our country” and the contrast introduced by “although” in the conclusion. However, control is inconsistent, and several sentence structures are faulty. “While others reject this notion” is a fragment, while “this is that varies of choice” lacks a complete, correctly formed construction. Errors also appear in agreement and articles, as in “Farmers from poor country,” and in sentence boundaries and punctuation, particularly the comma splice in “In final reckoning, this essay tends to reiterate that…” followed by an awkwardly punctuated “I, believe.” Practise complete sentences and check articles, plurals, and punctuation, especially when combining clauses.
