Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, supermarkets offer food products of many different countries. From my perspective, i think it is a positive development for consumer having availability of different foods and more choices.

One major benefit is that people can enjoy a variety of food. They can try any kind of cuisine and purchase any type of food from worldwide. This makes them feel happy. For example, fruits like kivi and pineapple that are not growed locally, it can be imported from other countries and available them to local people. This makes their diet more diverse and allows them to experience different cultures.

Another benefit is that food from all over the world can available throughout the year when there is a shortage of particular food. Shortaging of any type of food can lead to increment in prices which results into chaos among habitats. For example, there is shortage of sugar production in a country due to any issue. Government will import the product and people can by it from supermarkets at low price.

While having positive developments, there are some kind of negative development as well. Local farmers may face difficulty in selling of their products. Food from other countries can high government's import expenses and make a country more dependent on other countries for their food. Transporting foods over long distances may increase pollution.

In conclusion, having some negative effects of this developemnt on local farmers and environment , there are many positive developments. The wider choice of products and year-around availability are significant benefits for consumers.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you consider worldwide food availability positive, while acknowledging disadvantages. You address the main parts of the question and give relevant reasons, including greater choice, year-round supply, pressure on local farmers, import costs and pollution. The examples of imported fruit and sugar help illustrate your points. However, some ideas are more fully explained than others. The benefits to consumers are developed, but the claims about farmers, government expenses and dependence on imports are listed briefly without explaining their effects or giving supporting examples. The sugar example also needs a clearer link to how imports keep prices low. More balanced development of these points would make the argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs on benefits, a paragraph acknowledging drawbacks, and a conclusion that restates your view. Sequencing is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “One major benefit,” “Another benefit,” and “In conclusion” help readers navigate the argument. This clear organisation is already effective, but some connections are mechanical or unclear. For instance, “While having positive developments” does not smoothly introduce the contrast, and “This makes them feel happy” is a weak link between trying foods and the more substantial benefits that follow. Use more precise referencing and connect each example explicitly to its main point to create smoother progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “variety,” “imported,” “diverse,” “dependent,” and “pollution,” and your meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts to express more complex ideas, such as food availability throughout the year and the effects of shortages. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “Shortaging,” “increment in prices,” “chaos among habitats,” and “high government's import expenses.” Spelling errors such as “kivi,” “developemnt,” and “by” for “buy” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural combinations such as “food shortages,” “price increases,” and “raise government import costs,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “fruits … that are not growed locally” and a conditional example about a sugar shortage. The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors remain and occasionally make relationships between ideas unclear. Examples include “i think” (capitalisation), “for consumer having availability,” “that are not growed locally, it can be imported,” and “Government will import the product,” where the sentence structure, verb forms or articles need attention. The conditional example also shifts awkwardly between “there is” and “will import.” Practise forming complete clauses, matching subjects and verbs, and using articles and verb forms consistently; this would improve control while retaining your range.
