Student answer (Band 6.5)

Consumers are now able to buy food produced from all over the world by going to the supermarket nowadays in many countries. I think this is a positive development for many countries as since different types of food from around world can easily be found by consumers and they don't have to go through a hassle while also increasing import and export opportunities for the country.

Previously, people used to travel specially to buy food from all over the world, procuring it themselves which not only costed more but also inherited much hassle. They had to buy a ticket, pack their bags, travel several kilometres away to different continents just to eat or bring back their favorite food. However, now all they need to do is run to nearest supermarket and buy whatever they are craving for example they could be craving macaroons made in paris, indian masalas or turkish delight. They can visit their nearby supermarket and high chances are that 1 out 3 would be available there. They can even search it online and find the nearby supermarket which has their required items stocked up. This not only saves time but also money.

This also creates new business venture opportunities as people can survey what most consumers are looking from different parts of the world. They can stock up various varities and sell at a profit. This is a win-win situation as the business will also flourish and the consumers can easily get what they want. This opens up import and export channels, eventually benefiting the country. This increases the economic benefits of the country and developing good relations between different countries.

In conclusion, having food produced from all over the world readily available within a few miles at your nearest supermarket is a positive development as it not only connects people from different countries through food but also creates economic benefits for the countries and save people the trouble of waiting to travel and enjoy their favorite food.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you consider worldwide food availability positive. You address the question with relevant reasons, especially convenience for consumers and economic opportunities through imports and exports, and the examples of macarons, Indian spices and Turkish delight help illustrate the range of products. This meets the task well, while the explanation of how international food trade improves relations and benefits a country is asserted rather than fully demonstrated. The claim that people previously had to travel abroad to obtain these foods is also overstated, so it weakens the support for your convenience argument. To strengthen the response further, develop the economic point with a specific example and make the supporting claims more precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present consumer and business benefits, and the conclusion restates your position. Ideas generally progress in a sensible order, and linking expressions such as “However,” “This also,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. Some connections are less smooth or repetitive, particularly the repeated references to visiting a nearby supermarket and the repeated claims about economic benefits. The long opening sentence also combines several points, making the main argument harder to follow. Use clearer topic sentences and vary how you connect examples to the claims they support; this would make the progression more flexible and less reliant on repeated transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “import and export opportunities,” “business venture opportunities,” “consumers,” and “readily available.” The food examples add specificity, and the meaning remains clear throughout. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or informal: “inherited much hassle” does not express the intended meaning, “what most consumers are looking” is awkward, and “varities” is misspelled. “Run to nearest supermarket” and “whatever they are craving” are conversational rather than consistently academic in tone. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling, while retaining the useful topic-specific vocabulary you already use. This would make your expression more natural and controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “However” and a concluding clause beginning “as it not only…”. Most ideas can be understood, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “as since” creates an incorrect clause connection, “1 out 3 would be available” is missing a preposition and article, and “This increases the economic benefits … and developing good relations” does not maintain a parallel grammatical structure. The final sentence also shifts from “it” to “save,” where the verb form should agree with the subject. Break up some long sentences and check clause structure, articles, prepositions and subject–verb agreement. More consistent accuracy would strengthen the range you are already attempting.
