Student answer (Band 5.5)

Presently, supermarkets are stocked with international products making it convenient for consumers. I largely agree with this development, as it supports feasiablity in purchasing goods from other countries. In this essay, we will look into both the positive and negative development.

Supermarkets selling global range of food makes it easier for consumers to purchase variety of products. A large number of people nowadays try their best to get certain kinds of foods which can be expensive and sometimes not available. This process of trying to purchase a product is very much time consuming and not cost effective, introduction of such supermarkets with food from all over the world is a game changer. For instance, in India it is difficult to get salmon, but with these supermarkets it will be very easier for consumers. Moreover, these kinds of production will be very beneficial for exporters.

Since the food products are shipped globally, we can expect a high price lablled on such products. Making it difficult for less fortunate people to afford it, which shows a socio-economic difference among the society. Even though every consumer pays taxes, introducing international products with high rates to cover the export and import cost makes it hard to be purchased by everyone. For example, countries like Mexico with low income household find these products very hard to be purchased.

In conclusion, supermarkets producing goods from all over the world can be highly positive as people nowad

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You take a broadly positive position and give relevant reasons, especially easier access to foods that may be unavailable locally and benefits for exporters. The salmon example helps make the first point concrete, while the affordability concern provides a counterargument. However, the response does not fully develop the overall judgement: the introduction says you “largely agree,” but the conclusion is cut off after “people nowad,” so your final position is not completed. The discussion of exporters is also only briefly mentioned, and the affordability example needs clearer explanation. The response is 10 words below the required minimum. Complete the conclusion and extend one or two ideas with specific explanation to address the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for benefits and drawbacks, and an attempted conclusion. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Even though,” and “For example” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is weakened by the unfinished conclusion, which leaves the essay without a complete ending. Some connections are also unclear: “This process of trying to purchase a product” does not clearly refer back to the difficulty of finding particular foods, and the shift from consumer benefits to exporters is abrupt. The phrase “In this essay, we will look into both” also promises a balanced discussion without clearly establishing how the points support your overall view. Use clearer referencing and ensure each paragraph develops one connected line of reasoning.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic-related vocabulary, including “international products,” “socio-economic difference,” and “export and import cost,” which allows you to discuss access and affordability. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “a game changer.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “supports feasiablity,” “global range of food,” and “high price lablled.” Spelling errors such as “feasiablity,” “lablled,” and “nowad” also reduce accuracy. Some wording is repetitive, particularly “products” and “purchase.” Aim for precise, natural combinations such as “a wide range of imported foods” and “make these products affordable,” and proofread spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex structures, including the concession in “Even though every consumer pays taxes” and the clause beginning “as it supports…”. Most of the main ideas remain understandable, but sentence construction is not consistently controlled. “Making it difficult for less fortunate people to afford it” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence, and “Supermarkets selling global range of food makes it easier” has an unclear subject and agreement pattern. The sentence beginning “A large number of people nowadays try their best…” is also followed by a long, loosely connected explanation. The final sentence is incomplete. Practise building complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and use full stops to separate ideas when a sentence becomes difficult to manage.
