Student answer (Band 5.5)

Finding suitable food items are difficuilt in the foreign countries. We need to explore these items on supermarkets. Fortunately nowadays, supermarkets are kepting all the food item created within countries or imported one. It is good for the consumers as they can get the things they need on time.

Firstly, many workers are working in different countries outside from their country of birth. They usually face problems in finding good food for their survival and body energy. So, instead of eating outside, they coock at home most of the time. Becuase when they go for eat outside at the specific restaurants, the foods is totally different from their culture and eating habits. They go to the supermarket, from where they can easily get the food ingredients like vegetable, grains, fruits, and spices imported from their own countries. Supermarket provide them easy access to althose materials required for coocking according to their taste, liking, and culture. For example, if a worker from Pakistan living and working in South Korea and he is also a muslim, he cannot Korean food. In muslim culture, they eat halal food which no inclusion of pork.

Secondly, the imported food items at supermarket are very expenssive to purchase. It is also a drawback for the workers living abroad. For example, the packet of 1 kg chicken imported from Brazil is of 3 USD but Korean 1 kg chicken at the same time may be sold at 1.5 USD. Likewise, some workers may be vegetarians but the vegetable are also priced vey high at the supermarket. These workers may also face the economic issues and they required to eat the meat products, which can put serious health issues for them.

Overall, supermarket can provide the food ingredients according to the culture of one person but it may be very expenssive as these are imported from other countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You present a relevant position: access to food from other countries is beneficial because it helps people living abroad find ingredients that suit their culture, although high prices are a disadvantage. The examples about a Pakistani worker in South Korea and the price difference between imported and local chicken support these points. However, the task asks whether this is a positive or negative development, and your conclusion mainly repeats both sides without clearly deciding which view is stronger. The discussion of cost is also less fully explained: the claim that expensive vegetables may force workers to eat meat and suffer health problems needs a clearer link and support. State your overall judgement directly and develop each main reason more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement, with an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting benefits and drawbacks, and a concluding paragraph. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Overall” help the reader follow the structure. Within the first body paragraph, the explanation moves from workers’ food needs to imported ingredients and then to an example, which gives the discussion a recognisable progression. However, some links are mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is occasionally unclear. For instance, the sentence about vegetarians facing high vegetable prices is followed by a claim that they may have to eat meat, but the connection is not explained. Use clearer referencing and transitions, and make the conclusion synthesize the argument rather than simply repeat both sides.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “imported,” “ingredients,” “culture,” “vegetarians,” and “economic issues.” These terms help make the examples relevant and understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the reader pause. Examples include “food items created within countries,” “food for their survival and body energy,” and “the foods is totally different from their culture.” Spelling errors such as “difficuilt,” “coock,” and “expenssive” are also noticeable. Build a more precise set of phrases for food availability, dietary requirements, and affordability, and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including explanations with “because” and a conditional example beginning “if a worker from Pakistan…”. This shows an effort to connect ideas rather than relying only on short statements. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction occur often enough to affect clarity. For example, “Finding suitable food items are” has subject–verb disagreement, while “Supermarket provide them” needs a plural subject and matching verb. The example sentence “he cannot Korean food” is missing a verb, and “the foods is” has incorrect agreement. Practise checking each sentence for a complete verb, a clear subject, and consistent singular or plural forms.
