Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the recent times, Supermarkets are providing food essentials which are imported from different countries around the globe, moreover these items are easily accessible and available for the customers, I personally think that this is a very good and positive development, as a lot of international branded food products are hard to find so easily.

Firstly, food is a basic necessity for every human being and especially when good foods, that are imported from other countries are provided under a single roof in a store, this can be a very good approach for the customers as they can take benifit from the international food products they always dreamt to eat, for example UK is very famous for its fish and chips, and if the same taste and quality is provided in pakistan, the end user will be delighted and amused by the great foreign taste. Moreover alot of fruits are typically not grown in a certain country and many people are unaware of it, when they try it for the first time, they have a wonderful experience from that particular taste.

Secondly, by getting foreign food items under a single supermarket, a customer can have an idea about the food specialities of different countries, by doing this, they get an idea of what is the best option for them once they visit that country, for example I tried a ready to cook italian styled pizza which was imported directly from italy, and I was amazed by the taste of it, as it was completely different from what I had been eating till now, this was because I never had the authentic italian styled pizza here, and now I have a perfect plan that if I get a chance to visit Italy, I will surely be trying the pizza there.

In conclusion, I think that the availability of foreign food items under one supermarket has alot of advantages and is a great development.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you consider worldwide food availability a positive development. Both body paragraphs give relevant reasons, including access to foods not grown locally and the chance to experience other countries’ cuisines. The examples of fish and chips in Pakistan and imported pizza in Italy help illustrate these points. This covers the task well, and the personal example adds support. However, some claims are not fully explained: the idea that trying imported food helps people choose what to eat when visiting that country is less convincing without further explanation. Developing the broader benefits more fully, and acknowledging a possible drawback before explaining why the advantages outweigh it, would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present separate reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. The examples are generally placed alongside the points they support. At times, however, the linking feels mechanical, and several ideas are joined in long sentences with commas, making the relationships between them less clear. For instance, the opening sentence combines the availability of imported food with your opinion in one extended sequence. Use full stops or more varied linking structures, and make references such as “by doing this” more explicit, so the reader can follow each step of your reasoning smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “imported,” “international food products,” “food specialities,” and “authentic,” and these choices help communicate your examples. There is some attempt to use more specific language, particularly when describing cuisine and customer experience. However, several phrases are imprecise or unnatural, such as “good foods,” “international branded food products,” and “foreign taste.” Repetition of “food,” “taste,” and “idea” also limits the range. Spelling and word-form slips, including “benifit,” “alot,” and “italian styled,” further reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural collocations and precise terms—for example, distinguish imported produce from prepared dishes—and proofread spelling and capitalization.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, using clauses with “when,” “as,” and “if” to explain reasons and examples. The main ideas remain understandable, but some sentences are overloaded or inaccurately punctuated, particularly the opening sentence and the long sentence beginning “Firstly, food is a basic necessity.” Commas are often used where a full stop or a clearer clause structure is needed. There are also errors in articles and sentence construction, as in “when good foods…are provided,” and “I never had the authentic…pizza here,” where the tense does not fit the intended meaning. Break long sentences into manageable units, check article use, and practise accurate past and present-perfect forms while retaining your complex clauses.
