Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, people can buy food from different countries in supermarket. I believed that this is the positive development because it give people more choices and allow them to enjoy different types of food.

One main advantage is that customers can buy a verity of food from one place thoughtout the year. Some furits and vegetables are not easily available in every country beacuse of season/weather condition. However these markets can import various type of product from other countries.

For example people in pakistan can export oranges and supply to other countries and they can also purchase different type of vegetable from diverse countries. So this makes shopping more convenient for consumers.

Another benefit is that people can try different cuisines from around the world. They can buy foreign products and prepare dissimilar type of dishes at home. This helps them learn about other cultures and enjoy new tastes. In addition, importing food can create business opportunities and provide more jobs in the food industry.

However, there are some disadvantages to this development. Imported food can be expensive because of transportation costs. Moreover, buying too much imported food may affect local farmers because people might prefer foreign products other then local ones. So it can also make farmers provision in danger.

In conclusion, I believe that buying food from different countries is a positive development. Although it can create some problems for local farmers, it gives consumers more choices and helps them enjoy different kinds of food. And importing of food can also build a strong relationship between two countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you consider worldwide food availability positive, while acknowledging possible harm to local farmers. You address the question with relevant reasons, including greater choice, access to seasonal produce, cultural discovery and employment. The Pakistan example also helps make the discussion more concrete. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the claim that imports create jobs could be linked to specific stages such as transport or retail, and the effect on farmers is not explored beyond consumers preferring foreign products. The final point about stronger relationships between countries is introduced only in the conclusion. Developing and supporting these ideas more evenly would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion that restates your view. The progression from consumer choice to cultural benefits is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Another benefit” and “However” help readers recognise shifts in direction. At times, though, linking is somewhat mechanical, and connections between examples and claims could be clearer. The Pakistan sentence, for example, moves from exporting oranges to purchasing vegetables without explaining how both illustrate the same benefit. The phrase “So it can also make farmers provision in danger” also leaves the relationship between the idea and its consequence unclear. Use more precise referencing and explain how each example supports its paragraph’s main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to discuss the issue, including “imported food,” “transportation costs,” “local farmers,” “cuisines” and “business opportunities.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and phrases such as “new tastes” and “food industry” are appropriate. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: “verity,” “furits,” “thoughtout” and “dissimilar type of dishes” are examples. Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural, particularly “farmers provision in danger” and “different type of vegetable.” Greater accuracy with common collocations, plural forms and spelling would strengthen your vocabulary control. Aim to use a smaller number of precise expressions rather than relying on broad phrases such as “different types of food.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional idea (“people might prefer foreign products”) and a concession introduced by “Although.” Most sentences remain understandable, but errors in agreement, articles and verb forms are present. For example, “I believed” does not fit the present opinion being expressed, and “it give people” should use a verb form agreeing with “it.” The opening also needs an article and plural form: “in supermarket” is not grammatically complete in this context. In “Some fruits and vegetables are not easily available,” the structure is clearer, but the following sentence has a singular/plural mismatch in “various type.” Review subject–verb agreement, articles and countable nouns, then proofread punctuation and spacing. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control.
