Student answer (Band 6.5)

There is an observation that buyers in many countries can now purchase food items from a supermarket which are produced all over the world. In my opinion, although i think it is a positive development, where people can get economic benefits and enjoy different foods, there are some drawbacks like food insecurity in other countries.

Different countries in the world have their own kind of food, mainly influenced by their culture. They often export their food to other countries to earn huge amount of money which is not possible to earn otherwise if they sell similar items in their own country. Moreover, different food items which are produced in one country have large foreign consumer base because of the taste. For instance, Japan is producing thousands of tonnes of sushi, a famous dish, and their traders are exporting it to numerous countries, which is bought by their citizens who like to eat this kind of fish, thus earning handsome money.

On the other hand, there are some negative aspects of having access by people in some countries to food items produced globally. Mafias and big corporations in many countries are exporting huge amount of crops which are produced locally. However, people are malnurished in those exporting countries and children and suffering from stunted growth, consequently, exerting immense pressure on health sector and overall development of the country. If that food is distributed in the sociery, it would be beneficial for their own country's prosperity, without costing consumers in other countries.

In conclusion, people having access to food produced around the world at a supermarket is a positive development in economic terms and exposure, it is also necessary to prioritize the food distribution in countries where food security is causing damage, and export only after fulfilling the local consumption.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you consider worldwide supermarket access positive overall, while recognising a concern about food insecurity in exporting countries. You address both sides and support the economic benefit with the example of Japanese sushi exports. This meets the task well, but the two main ideas are not developed equally. The economic argument focuses on exporters earning money, without explaining much about the benefits to consumers or how access to varied food improves lives. The food-security point is relevant, but the claim about corporations exporting crops and causing malnutrition needs clearer explanation or evidence. To strengthen the response, develop each reason with a more explicit cause-and-effect link and make the overall judgement more decisive about why the benefits outweigh the drawback.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, the body paragraphs present benefits and drawbacks, and the conclusion returns to your position. The contrast signalled by “On the other hand” helps readers follow the shift in argument, and examples are placed within the relevant paragraphs. However, some connections between ideas are abrupt or unclear. In the second body paragraph, the move from exports to malnutrition and then to pressure on the health sector would benefit from more explicit explanation. The conclusion also combines several points in one long sentence, making the final recommendation less easy to follow. Use clearer links between claims and consequences, and divide complex concluding ideas into more controlled sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “economic benefits,” “foreign consumer base,” “food insecurity,” and “stunted growth.” These choices help communicate both the commercial and social dimensions of the issue, and you attempt some less common expressions such as “handsome money.” At times, however, word choice and collocation are imprecise or unnatural: “huge amount of money,” “having access by people,” and “food is distributed in the society” do not express the ideas smoothly. There are also spelling errors, including “malnurished” and “sociery.” Aim for more natural academic collocations and check spelling carefully; precise phrasing will make your arguments sound more fluent and credible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “although,” “which,” and “if.” Most of the meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors and awkward constructions reduce accuracy. For example, “although i think it is a positive development, where people can get economic benefits” does not form a complete, well-connected clause, and “children and suffering” is missing the verb “are.” In “food items from a supermarket which are produced,” the relative clause is awkwardly attached, while the final sentence joins several ideas without clear grammatical control. Capitalise “I,” check subject–verb forms, and revise long sentences into clearer clauses. More consistent control of these structures would improve accuracy.
