Student answer (Band 6.0)

Now a days in supermarkets there is a variety of products from national and international consumer brands. The import ratio countries is increasing as some years before a country used to import only some essentials which were not available for people but now almost every type of product wether its food, cosmetics, usable products everything is being imported from different countries. If we look at this development it has both pros and cons attached with it.

If we talk about benefits the supermarkets are providing us with a huge variety of products making it easy to get anything a person want. With different options available it is feasible for us to choose whatever suits our budget or according to our personal liking. It allows people to try and taste food products from everywhere wether they are italian suaces, swiss chocolates or korean noodles all are easily accessible.

On the other side the cons of this development cannot be missed. As all the products which are imported from other countries they cost higher then average price of similar product being produced in local market. But due to preferences of some consumers who only want to use specific international products as they have this rigid belief about them that they are of high quality and standard, that same product costs them more on average. With this local consumer companies are facing loss because their sales are not reaching a target point and this in return is causing economic depreciation for that country.

From this situation we can conclude that consumer should keep a balance between buying the local and international products. Beacuse many better local alternatives are present in market such as food suaces, spices as compared to international ones which are heavy on budget as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address the question by discussing both the benefits and drawbacks of access to imported food, and your conclusion recommends balancing local and international purchases. The examples of Italian sauces, Swiss chocolates and Korean noodles make the benefits relevant, while the effect on local businesses gives the opposing view. However, the task asks whether this is a positive or negative development, and your position remains somewhat balanced rather than clearly stating which side you consider stronger. Some points also need fuller explanation: for example, you claim that imports cause “economic depreciation” but do not explain how this affects the wider economy. State your overall judgement directly and develop the main reasons with clearer cause-and-effect support.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on benefits, a paragraph on drawbacks, and a conclusion. The progression from “If we talk about benefits” to “On the other side” helps readers follow the contrast, and the final recommendation connects to the discussion. This organisation is effective, though some linking is mechanical and a few references are unclear. For instance, “With this local consumer companies are facing loss” does not clearly show how the preceding point leads to losses, and “that same product” could be more precisely identified. To strengthen progression, use clearer links between each claim and its consequence, and make the conclusion explicitly reflect your overall position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “variety,” “accessible,” “preferences,” “alternatives” and “budget,” which allows you to discuss consumer choice and economic effects. However, several noticeable spelling and word-choice problems reduce precision, such as “wether,” “suaces,” “Beacuse,” “usable products” and “economic depreciation.” Some combinations are also unnatural, including “import ratio countries” and “reaching a target point.” These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding your main ideas, but they make parts of the argument less fluent and exact. Build a bank of topic-specific collocations, and check spelling and word forms carefully before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “If we look at this development” and a relative clause in “which were not available for people.” The main meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “a person want” needs subject–verb agreement, and “they cost higher then average price” has problems with comparison structure and articles. The long sentence beginning “But due to preferences…” is also difficult to follow because its clauses are not controlled clearly. Practise accurate comparisons and agreement, and divide long sentences when they contain several connected ideas. More consistent punctuation would also make the relationships between clauses easier to read.
