Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address the topic by presenting convenience and wider choice as benefits, then discussing the effect on small shops. However, the task asks whether access to food from around the world is positive or negative, and your response shifts towards supermarkets generally, including clothes and household goods. Your conclusion says both sides matter but does not clearly state which overall view you support. The points about discounts and pressure on local retailers are relevant, but they are only briefly explained; the claim that retail shops offer better quality also needs a clear link to imported food. To strengthen the response, state a definite position and develop two or three points with specific explanations or examples tied directly to worldwide food availability.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a concluding paragraph. Transitions such as “To commence with,” “However,” and “To recapitulate” help signal the stages of the argument. This gives the essay an overall coherent arrangement. At times, though, the progression within paragraphs is less clear: the first body paragraph moves from household products to clothes and discounts, while the second shifts between shop closures, owners’ economic stability, and product quality. Some linking phrases feel mechanical, and references such as “this statement” and “the notion” are not very precise. Group related points and explain how each supports your position to make the connections clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “supermarket,” “brands,” “varieties,” “discount,” and “economic stability,” and you attempt more formal expressions such as “predominant merit” and “To elaborate further.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “residents are intresting to shopping,” “great access for getting products,” and “Owner of retail shops have demotivated.” Spelling errors such as “conveniently,” “items,” and “supermarket” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural, precise phrases and check spelling carefully; vocabulary should focus more directly on international food availability rather than general shopping.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a relative clause in “people who are doing shopping at supermarket” and a result clause beginning “As a result.” However, complex constructions are often faulty, and errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence structure occur frequently enough to make some ideas hard to interpret. For example, “the supermarket affect the small shops” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “Owner of retail shops have demotivated” has problems with both number and verb form. The opening sentence, “residents are intresting to shopping,” is also grammatically unclear. Practise building accurate basic sentences first, then add subordinate clauses, checking subject–verb agreement and verb patterns.
