Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays food production is getting too expensive, as there is massive inflation in world wide. Countries are exporting and importing food products from all over the world. Consumers can find any type of food in their home country from whole world. However, there are lots of pros and cons of having foods from different nations.

On the one hand, Consumers get easy access for all foods which are manufacturing in whole world. It will be more cheaper for local consumers. Many consumers demand different types of food for their well being. However, This benefit is not only for consumers but it will also boost particular country's economy. for instance, Tea is the major food which is consuming in many nations. Tea is importing from Sri Lanka to many Asian countires. By seeing this, it clealry shows how Sri lanka is taking investment and making their proft with huge margin.

On the other hand, If consumers find many foods in their shopping trolly from all over the world so they will take more interest in imported foods which is quite good. However, it will impact negatively to local businesses. Their food production will decline as local food demand will decrease automantically.

In my point of view, from micro to macro level this is a very positive developlment. As it will directly increase the varieties of food from all over the world. Consumers will get more reliable and healthy food. There wil be no stress for consumers to find any food.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear overall view in the final paragraph, calling access to international food “a very positive development,” and you include relevant points about consumer choice and economic benefits. However, the response only partly develops the task: the disadvantages are mentioned mainly as a possible decline in local food production, without an example or explanation of its wider effects. The tea example is relevant, but the link between Sri Lankan exports and “investment” is not clearly explained. Your opening also focuses on inflation, which is not developed as a reason for your position. The response is one word below the required minimum, and the limited development makes the argument feel incomplete. Explain each main point more fully and support it with a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting points, and a concluding opinion. This helps the reader follow the broad direction of your argument. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven, and some linking words do not show the intended relationship. For example, “However” introduces the consumer benefits paragraph even though the ideas that follow support the positive side; later, “However” also interrupts the explanation of the economic benefit. The repeated “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In my point of view” provide basic signposting but do not create strong links between claims and examples. Use clearer cause-and-effect connections and develop each paragraph around one main idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “consumers,” “imported foods,” “local businesses,” and “food production,” so the main subject is clear. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “boost … economy” and “food demand.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive: “easy access for all foods,” “more cheaper,” and “taking investment” do not express the intended meanings naturally. Spelling errors such as “countires,” “clealry,” “proft,” and “developlment” are noticeable and reduce precision. Build a more reliable set of phrases for discussing trade, choice, and local producers, and proofread spelling and word forms before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “If consumers find many foods … so they will take more interest,” and you use clauses to explain benefits and consequences. However, complex constructions are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences awkward or unclear. For example, “food products which are manufacturing” has an incorrect verb form, while “Tea is … consuming” and “Tea is importing” do not use the passive correctly. There are also problems with agreement and sentence boundaries, as in “Their food production will decline as local food demand will decrease.” Practise accurate passive forms and conditional sentences, and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation.
