Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, customers from different countries of all over the world prefer buy daily needs product from supermarket has become increasingly common. Although this trend has some drawbacks, I believe that it is a positive development overall.

One of the main reasons why I believe that it is a positive development is that it can reduce the shopping time. Almost all kinds of daily needs are available in one roof. So that consumers not need to find different product from different places. Also they can get product in affordable prices. Almost every supermarket accept all types of payment gateway, customer cannot need to hyper for the payment. People can try different types of food from different countries. Also know about different types of food, which is to widely not available in the country. For example, in Bangladesh, Kiwi is not a widely available fruit in the country. If people want this fruit, the will find this fruit in the supermarket.

Another important reason is that supermarket is use modern technology for preservation the frozen foods. Because of preserving foods supermarket can able to provide fresh foods from the customer in the long term. For instance, premium chocolate from different countries export in Bangladesh in a certain time of a year but supermarket owner could preserve them long time. The government also earn enough taxes from various types of international products, it will use for countries developments.

In conclusion, Although supermarket can reduce the earning source of small shop, it helps government to collect taxes from the customers.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you consider worldwide supermarket food a positive development overall. You give relevant reasons, including convenience, access to foods such as kiwi, preservation of imported products, and tax revenue. These examples show an attempt to support your view, and you briefly acknowledge a drawback in the conclusion. However, the response does not fully develop some points: the claim that supermarkets offer affordable prices and the point about payment methods are asserted rather than explained, while the effect on small shops is mentioned only at the end. To strengthen the response, explain how each main reason supports your overall judgement and develop the counterpoint before showing why the benefits outweigh it.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The main ideas are generally grouped sensibly: convenience and food variety appear together, followed by preservation and tax revenue. Linking expressions such as “Although,” “Also,” “For example” and “Another important reason” help signal relationships. However, several transitions feel mechanical, and the sequence within the first body paragraph moves quickly between shopping time, prices, payment and food variety. Some references are also unclear, such as “this fruit” repeated in the kiwi example and “it” in the final body paragraph. Group related points more tightly, use clearer references, and make the conclusion reflect the reasons developed in the essay.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “preservation,” “frozen foods,” “international products” and “taxes,” and you attempt to express a range of ideas about shopping and food supply. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, which limits precision. Examples include “daily needs product,” “in one roof,” “payment gateway,” and “hyper for the payment”; these phrases may make the intended meaning difficult to follow. “Fresh foods” is also not quite precise when discussing preserved or frozen products. Build a bank of natural topic collocations and check whether each word fits its context. More accurate phrasing would make your ideas clearer without requiring more complicated vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a concession in the opening and a conditional example about finding kiwi. However, grammatical control is uneven, and errors sometimes make sentences difficult to understand. For example, “prefer buy” needs an infinitive form, while “supermarket is use” has an incorrect verb construction. There are also problems with articles, agreement and sentence boundaries, as in “Almost every supermarket accept” and “So that consumers not need to find.” Practise forming complete clauses and checking subject–verb agreement, verb patterns and articles. Aim to produce accurate simple sentences first, then add complex structures where you can control them.
