Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a clear overall view that access to imported food is positive, and you identify relevant benefits and drawbacks: wider food choice and possible effects on local farmers and the environment. However, the response addresses the task only partially because these points are stated briefly rather than explained or supported with examples. For instance, “it improves the diet and lifestyles” is not developed to show how imported food improves diets, and the environmental concern is difficult to follow. Your position is also less clear in the body, where the disadvantages receive more detail than the benefits. The response is 78 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop your reasons. Explain each main point and add a relevant example to make your argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation: you introduce the topic and your view, discuss disadvantages, and provide a concluding statement. Linking expressions such as “on the other hand,” “however,” and “in conclusion” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, the response does not progress clearly from one main idea to the next. The opening sentence repeats the idea of food coming from different parts of the world, while the environmental and local-farmer concerns run together in one long section. Some connections are also unclear, particularly “However, buying the imported goods to the local farmers.” Use separate paragraphs for benefits and drawbacks, and make each paragraph develop one central point. Clearer sentence boundaries and more precise links between claims would improve the overall flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “imported food,” “local farmers,” “transportation,” and “carbon gases,” so the reader can identify the subject of your argument. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make parts difficult to understand, such as “varity,” “pacaging,” “enviroment,” and “forign.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise: “improves the diet and lifestyles” and “healthy food options” need more specific wording, while “carbon gases” would be better expressed as “carbon emissions.” Aim to use accurate collocations and check spelling carefully. Learning phrases such as “a wider selection of produce” and “increase pressure on domestic producers” would help you express these ideas more precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to connect ideas using clauses and linking words, but the range of sentence structures is limited and complex attempts are often faulty. Errors in sentence construction and agreement occur throughout, for example, “supermarket offer” and “which is increase the carbon gases.” The sentence beginning “However, buying the imported goods…” does not form a complete, clear grammatical relationship between imported goods and local farmers. Articles, plurals, and punctuation also need attention; the opening is a run-on sentence, and the conclusion contains several clauses joined without clear boundaries. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences first, then combine them accurately with conjunctions. Check that each sentence has a clear subject and verb, and use full stops to separate complete ideas.
