Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
I think this is a positive development because it not only helps the economy but also gives the consumers a lot of options to choose from to consume for themselves
Recently, the popularity of supermarket is booming as anyone can visit the place and can almost find everything necessary. The supermarkets do not only include local products. Products from other countries or localities seem to be present at these locations too, which is a positive development due to many reasons. Among all these reasons, the first that comes in talks would be economy. Supermarket is a place where economy is one of the most important factor. Products sold here directly affects the lives of the people, and as a whole, the country. Even though having local products on the shelf of these supermarket is more economical because it improves the economical conditions of the local people and creates job opportunities, which in turn serves the country, keeping products that are from the community outside of the country's own are also economical if proper law and rules can be imposed on the entire process of bringing outside products and selling them in the local market. A large amount of tax and vat can be applied to these products, which directly goes to the government and helps the economy of the country. It also helps in diplomatic economic relationships between countries.
Now, if we think about the consumers, then this is another important aspect of this whole positive development. Consumers have the right to choose their own product according to their taste regardless of the product's manufacturing or source location. Sometimes, products from outside the country may become better than the local ones and everyone deserves to have the better version of anything. Even though it is about the consumers, it helps the economy too in some other ways. When people choose other products instead of the local ones, the local industries face the challenges of competitions, which in turn makes the quality of the goods better as well as helps creating job opportunities.
Regardless of the reasons, this development ends up helping the economy of the country either way.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the opening: you consider worldwide food availability a positive development. You address two relevant benefits—economic effects and greater consumer choice—and explain that imported goods may generate tax revenue and encourage local producers to improve quality. However, the economic discussion is more developed than the consumer-choice point, which is asserted rather than illustrated with a specific example. The claim that imports create diplomatic relationships is also mentioned without explanation, and the conclusion largely repeats the economic point instead of drawing together both reasons. To strengthen the response, develop each main idea with a concrete example and explain more directly how access to international food benefits consumers.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an opening position, a paragraph focused mainly on economic effects, a paragraph about consumers and competition, and a concluding sentence. Transitions such as “Now, if we think about the consumers” help signal the shift in focus. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Even though having local products…” introduces a contrast, but the long sentence that follows makes the relationship between local goods, imports, and economic benefits difficult to track. The final sentence also returns to the economy without clearly summarising the consumer argument. Use clearer topic sentences, divide long chains of ideas into shorter units, and make references such as “this development” more specific where needed.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “consumers,” “local products,” “tax,” “government,” “industries,” and “quality.” Some less common expressions, such as “diplomatic economic relationships” and “manufacturing or source location,” show an effort to express more precise ideas. However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise, including “the first that comes in talks,” “economical conditions,” and “challenges of competitions.” Repetition of “economy,” “products,” and “helps” also limits flexibility. Aim for more natural collocations and vary key terms—for instance, use “economic conditions,” “face competition,” and “contribute to economic growth.” These refinements would make your meaning smoother and more precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional and concessive forms such as “if proper law and rules can be imposed” and “Even though it is about the consumers.” Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “the popularity of supermarket is booming” needs a plural or an article, while “one of the most important factor” requires a plural noun. In “Products sold here directly affects,” the subject and verb do not agree, and “helps creating job opportunities” uses an incorrect verb pattern. Several sentences are also very long, making grammatical relationships harder to control. Review agreement and verb patterns, and use sentence boundaries to keep complex ideas clear.
