Student answer (Band 6.0)

Supermarkets have became an essential part for grocery shopping in different countries. In today's world buyers usually go to their nearby supermarket and get food of many varieties. I strongly believe that it's a positive development as it helps individuals in number of ways.

Firstly, supermarkets save a lot of time of consumers by providing them all the necessary items in one place. In general it takes much time of people in order to only look at things to buy because they have to change shops for different grocery items or food. But supermarkets are the best alternatives to this as they have all the foods from different countries. Thus, public can choose their food instantly. Once my mom went to buy food from the supermarket later she shared her experience that it was

really easy and fun to do as compared to purchasing from two or more shops.

Secondly, these markets contain a large variety of food from all over the globe. It has many meals, bakery items, pantry staples etc. of different countries which help people to have numerous tastes and enjoy food of another country without going there. Futhermore, people can buy stuff which is popular in some other region or state. For instance with the help of supermarkets european people can taste the south asian spices without taking a flight to south asia.

To conclude all of this I'll say that supermarket play a vital role in the food industry as it provides them with different tastes at home. Variety of meals become available to people and it save their precious time. Hence, supermarkets should be seen as a positive development.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you consider access to international food a positive development, and the conclusion restates this view. You give two relevant reasons—convenience and greater food variety—and support them with examples, including your mother’s supermarket visit and European consumers trying South Asian spices. This addresses the task, but the discussion is not equally developed: the personal anecdote mainly illustrates ease of shopping, while the claim that supermarkets save time could be explained more precisely. The point about food from other regions is also asserted more than explored. To strengthen the response, explain the benefits in greater depth and connect each example explicitly to why global food availability is positive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around separate reasons, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “To conclude” make the progression easy to follow, and the examples are placed alongside the relevant points. This meets the lower-band expectations securely and shows some features of stronger organisation. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical, with repeated reliance on basic signposts, and some references are unclear: in “it provides them with different tastes,” the pronoun “them” does not clearly identify who benefits. The anecdote also ends abruptly across a line break. Use more varied links between claims and explanations, and make pronoun references explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including topic-related terms such as “pantry staples,” “variety,” and “consumers.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “food from all over the globe” and “South Asian spices.” However, the range is limited in places by repetition of “food,” “different,” and “people,” while several word choices or collocations sound unnatural, including “in number of ways,” “best alternatives,” and “have numerous tastes.” Spelling slips such as “Futhermore” and the lower-case “european” also reduce accuracy. Build a wider set of natural collocations for discussing access, choice, and convenience, and check spelling and word forms during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause in “as it helps individuals” and a relative clause in “which help people to have numerous tastes.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “have became” uses the wrong verb form, “supermarket play” has subject–verb disagreement, and “it save their precious time” also needs agreement. There are issues with articles and number in “in number of ways” and “all the foods,” as well as an unclear construction in “it provides them with different tastes at home.” These errors do not generally prevent understanding, but more consistent control is needed. Practise agreement, verb forms, and article use, then proofread each sentence.
