Student answer (Band 5.0)
In many countries, consumers can go to a supermarket and buy food produced all over the world. This development have both positive and negative aspects.
Overall, in modern countries people preferred to go to a supermarket to buy food and goods they need. The easiest way of shopping where people get all the stuff they needed in one place. But it also has a negative impact on small and local markets in different areas. Both supermarkets and local markets have their importance. This easy will discuss both positive and negative development of supermarket before my opinion.
Consumers in different countries have their own idea for both local and supermarkets. For example, a famous author always visits local markets to get better ideas as compared to supermarket. Supermaket will provide consumers number of items with both discount and retail prices. But this cannot guarantee that consumer get every thing from supermarket. Most of time, supermarkets provides just a little choices in numerous items.
In contrasts, I myself visits supermarket to buy laptop bag. In the local market the price and quality of bag were standard as compared to the supermarket's bags. In the supermarket, not only the price was high, but also quality of bags were low as compared to the local market. There were just few bags to choice. So I went to the local market to buy laptop bag. In the local market you can get both discount, numerous choices and multiple quality of same item.
At the end, in my opinion supermarkets is a positve development if you have run short of time and want to buy all the stuff in one place. But in this case you are completely dependant to supermarket.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response gives a clear overall preference for supermarkets, but the position is qualified rather than fully established: the conclusion says they are positive when time is short, while the body mainly discusses supermarkets’ limited choice and the advantages of local markets. The task is specifically about access to food from around the world, yet the examples focus on general shopping and a laptop bag, so the central issue receives little relevant development. The opening promises to discuss both sides, but the points about food variety, international products, convenience, or effects on local food producers are not explained. To strengthen the response, address the global-food aspect directly and support the stated view with relevant reasons and examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the contrast between supermarkets and local markets gives it a basic organising principle. Linking expressions such as “But,” “In contrasts,” and “At the end” signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is not consistently clear: the discussion shifts from food shopping to a famous author, then to buying a laptop bag, which weakens the connection to the task and between paragraphs. Some links are also awkward or repetitive, and the conclusion introduces dependence on supermarkets without developing that point earlier. Organise each paragraph around one relevant reason, use clearer references to connect examples to the argument, and ensure the conclusion follows from the points already established.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The writer uses a basic range of topic-related vocabulary, including “supermarket,” “local markets,” “discount,” “quality,” and “choices,” and the main meaning is generally understandable. However, vocabulary is repetitive and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “number of items,” “a little choices,” and “run short of time.” Spelling errors, including “Supermaket” and “positve,” also reduce accuracy. Some expressions, such as “a famous author always visits local markets to get better ideas,” are unclear in this context. Build a more precise range for discussing food availability and international trade, and check spelling and natural word combinations during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrastive construction “not only the price was high, but also quality of bags were low.” However, control is inconsistent, and frequent errors sometimes make sentences difficult to follow. Examples include “This development have,” “people preferred,” “supermarkets provides,” and “I myself visits,” where verb forms or subject–verb agreement are incorrect. Articles and plurals are also problematic in phrases such as “the easiest way of shopping” and “quality of bags were low.” The sentence “The easiest way of shopping where people get all the stuff they needed in one place” is incomplete. Practise accurate sentence boundaries, agreement, tense consistency and article use before attempting more complex structures.
