Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, many people go to a supermarket to purchase food items in many countries of the world. In my opinion, this is a negative development because it is time consuming and can be stressful for individuals.

Many people visit to a supermarket to purchase items in many countries but it has various factors that makes it a negative development. The main factor is that it takes a lot of time if someone visits to a market to purchase necessary items . If someone travels for buying food items for daily use, he has to spend a few amount of money on travelling to reach at the supermarket . Additionally, if there is a long queue for some reason, it will not only be time consuming but also stressful situation for people and if the item is not available there, he will travel to another supermarket to buy that thing and it will be extra burden. For example, many costumers complaint that supermarkets don't take the items back once it is sold.

The major factor of this development is that, the world is progressing so fast and in this situation, it is an old fashion to purchase food items by visiting the supermarkets. Instead , people are now more familiar with new modern technology than previous and they can buy almost any kind of item in the world that they want to purchase without visiting there. It is so productive, easy and simple way to purchase items and can be time saving technique.Furthermore, there are free home deliveries for online shopping users.

In conclusion, I strongly disagree with te statement because it is time consuming technique and can be the reason for frustration for individuals.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You state a clear negative position in the introduction and conclusion, and you give reasons involving time, travel costs, queues and frustration. However, the response only partially addresses the specific development in the prompt: access to food produced all over the world. Most of the discussion concerns the inconvenience of visiting supermarkets, while the second body paragraph shifts to online shopping and home delivery, which does not directly explain why globally sourced supermarket food is negative. The example about customers being unable to return items is also not clearly connected to the main argument. To strengthen the response, focus on relevant effects of international food availability and explain each reason with a specific example or consequence.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, so the reader can identify its broad structure. Linking expressions such as “Additionally,” “For example,” and “Furthermore” help signal additions. However, progression between ideas is often unclear: the first body paragraph moves from travel time to queues, unavailable items and return policies, without showing how these points support one central argument. The second paragraph begins “The major factor of this development” but then changes to online purchasing, creating a weak connection to the prompt and the preceding paragraph. Repeated references to “many people” and “items” also make the flow feel repetitive. Organise each paragraph around one relevant reason and use clearer links between explanation and example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough everyday vocabulary to communicate your general opinion, including “time consuming,” “stressful,” “long queue,” and “home deliveries.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “negative development” and “extra burden.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, sometimes making the intended meaning less clear. For example, “visit to a supermarket,” “spend a few amount of money,” and “old fashion” are not natural expressions in these contexts. Spelling and word-form errors such as “costumers” and “complaint” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise vocabulary for discussing international food supply, and check common collocations and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including conditional structures such as “If someone travels for buying food items…,” and the main message is generally understandable. However, control is uneven, particularly in longer sentences that combine several ideas with “and” or “if.” There are recurring errors in articles, agreement, prepositions and sentence construction, as in “visit to a supermarket,” “various factors that makes,” and “it will not only be time consuming but also stressful situation.” Some punctuation and spacing problems also interrupt the reading, especially around full stops and commas. Aim to make each sentence express one clear relationship, then check subject–verb agreement, articles and prepositions. More accurate complex sentences would improve clarity.
